Das Künstler:innenhaus Bremen versteht sich als Ort der Produktion, Präsentation und Förderung zeitgenössischer Kunst. ”Mother Tonguing“ ist eine tragbare Schmuckedition aus individuell geformten Keramikobjekten, die im Rahmen der Einzelausstellung “Mutating Mary” (2019) von Dafna Maimon im Künstler:innenhaus Bremen entstand. In dieser Ausstellung war eine Zunge als große Textilskulptur zu sehen. Sie ist eine vieldeutige Metapher: Im Kontext von Maimons Arbeit „Mutating Mary“ kann sie nicht nur als nährende, infektiöse oder gar verführerische Zunge verstanden werden, sondern sie steht auch als Symbol für das Erheben der Stimme von Frauen.

“Mother Tonguing” is a wearable jewelry edition made of individually formed ceramic objects, created in the context of Dafna Maimon’s solo exhibition “Mutating Mary” (2019) at the Künstlerhaus Bremen. In this show, a tongue was presented as a large textile sculpture. It is an ambiguous metaphor; in the context of Maimon’s work, “Mutating Mary”, it can be understood not only as a nourishing, infectious or even seductive tongue, but also as an emblem for the raising of women’s voices.

🔃 Ein neues Türbild ziert unsere Fassade 🔃

“An Ode to the`Post-Nature`“ von Bojana Petković ist eine künstlerische Forschung, welche das Anthropozän untersucht, in dem menschliche Aktivitäten die Grenze zwischen Natur und Kultur verwischen und hybride Materialien wie Technofossilien schaffen, die den geologischen Einfluss der Menschheit belegen. Es wird kritisch hinterfragt, wie menschliches Handeln natürliche Systeme stört, wobei diese Materialien Instabilität, schnellen Wandel und Glück symbolisieren. Das Projekt entwirft eine Zukunft mit ökologischer Verantwortung und fördert eine harmonische Koexistenz innerhalb der Systeme, die der Mensch verändert hat.

Bojana Petković ist eine in Bremen lebende Medienkünstlerin und Designerin, die sich in ihrer Arbeit mit den Überschneidungen von Natur, Kultur und Technologie beschäftigt.

🔃 A new picture on our façade 🔃

“An Ode to the`Post-Nature`“ by Bojana Petković is an artistic research examining the Anthropocene, in which human activity blurs the line between nature and culture, creating hybrid materials like technofossils that evidence humanity’s geological impact. It critiques how human actions disrupt natural systems, with these materials symbolizing instability, rapid change, and serendipity. The project envisions a future of ecological responsibility, promoting harmonious coexistence within the systems humanity has transformed.

Bojana Petković is a Bremen-based media artist and designer whose work explores the intersection of nature, culture, and technology.

🌊Eindrücke aus der BBK Jahresausstellung „Fließender Übergang“, Part I 🌊

Wasser hat eine Vielzahl von Erscheinungsformen. Es fließt in Flüssen und Meeren, tropft als Regen vom Himmel, ist starr gefroren zu riesigen Eisblöcken oder als Wasserdampfwolke ungreifbar. Es dient als Lebenselixier und ist zerstörerische Kraft. Die Übergänge sind fließend. Die diesjährige Jahresausstellung des BBK widmet sich dem Thema Wasser in all seinen Facetten und mit all seinen Interpretationsspielräumen.

In der Galerie und den Räumen des ehemaligen Restaurants im Künstler:innenhaus vereint „Fließender Übergang“ 18 Positionen von Bremer Künstler:innen.

Water comes in a variety of forms. It flows in rivers and oceans, drips from the sky as rain, is frozen rigid into huge blocks of ice or is intangible as a cloud of water v***r. It serves as an elixir of life and is a destructive force. The transitions are fluid. This year’s BBK annual exhibition is dedicated to the theme of water in all its facets and with all its scope for interpretation.

In the gallery and the rooms of the former restaurant in the Künstler:innenhaus, „Fließender Übergang“ brings together 18 positions by Bremen artists.

🔃 Ein neues Türbild ziert unsere Fassade 🔃

Paule Potulski zeigt im Rhamen des Projektreihe “in sight out” ein Filmstill aus ihrem noch im entstehen befindenden Film “Dobra, no Dobra” 2024.

Sie begreift die Materialien ihrer Recherche basierten künstlerischen Praxis als selbstständige Akteure. In mehrjährigen intensiven Prozessen erforscht sie das ihnen innewohnende Wissen.

Die letzten eineinhalb Jahre widmete Sie sich der Arbeit an einem Essayfilm über die Migrationsgeschichte ihrer Familie. Hierfür besuchte Paule Potulski das polnische Dorf, in dem ihre Eltern aufwuchsen, sie die Sommer ihrer Kindheit verbrachte und ihr Großvater bis heute lebt, und filmte Eindrücke sowie Gespräche mit Familienmitgliedern. Der Prozess wurde begleitet von dem Videomaterial ihres Vaters aus den 1990er Jahren - eine Kamera die zur Feier ihrer Geburt erworben wurde.

Paule Potulski erhielt 2024 das Bremer Atelierstipendium.

🔃 A new picture on our façade 🔃

As part of the "in sight out" project series, Paule Potulski is showing a still from her film "Dobra, no Dobra" 2024, which is still in progress.

She understands the materials of her research-based artistic practice as independent actors. In intensive processes lasting several years, she explores the knowledge inherent in them.

For the past year and a half, she has been working on an essay film about her family's migration history. Paule Potulski visited the Polish village where her parents grew up, where she spent her childhood summers and where her grandfather still lives, and filmed impressions and conversations with family members. She also included her father's video footage from the 1990s - a camera he gave her as a birthday present.

Am 1. und 8. Februar, jeweils um 17 Uhr findet im Gastatelier des Künstler:innenhauses die Performance “Only in this moment I am invisible” von Hana Kawanishi statt. Die Performance wird im Rahmen der Ausstellung “last seen recently” der Klasse Julika Rudelius/Philipp Gufler aufgeführt.

“Only in this moment I am invisible” symbolisiert den Moment, in dem Menschen davon befreit sind, sie selbst zu sein und ihre Begierden entfesselt werden. Ein Holzbrett in der Mitte des Raumes isoliert die Künstlerin vom Alltagsleben und sie wird zu einer anonymen Figur. Körperliche Instabilität und Einschränkungen schaffen Bewegungen, die wiederum weitere Bewegungen auslösen und so geht es weiter.

“Hardcore 18:51” thematisiert Trauer, Verlust und Widerstand, indem sie Verlust nicht als endgültigen Zustand darstellt, sondern als einen fortwährenden Prozess, der auch inmitten persönlicher und gesellschaftlicher Herausforderungen weitergeht. Zwei Musikstücke in Zusammenarbeit mit Lucas Hoge (John Bonjorno). Kostümdesign in Zusammenarbeit mit Maikel Luka. Technisches und Lichtdesign von Unser Kollektiv.

Two musical pieces in collaboration with Lucas Hoge (John Bonjorno). Costume design in collaboration with Maikel Luka. Technical and lighting design by Unser Kollektiv.

🙌 Willkommen Yoriko Seto 🙌

Yoriko Seto ist die neue Stipendiatin des Bremer Atelierstipendium 2025.
Heute erhielt Seto die Schlüssel zu ihrem neuen Atelier, welches sie nun für ein Jahr nutzen darf.
Yoriko Seto: „Ich bin gespannt auf die Menschen, denen ich im Künstler:innenhaus begegnen werde. Und es ist das erste Mal, dass ich einen so großen Arbeitsraum für mich allein nutzen kann.“

Die künstlerische Arbeit von Yoriko Seto umfasst Zeichnungen, Künstlerbücher, Animationsfilme und neuerdings auch interaktive Objekte.

Das Bremer Atelierstipendium wird seit 2017 jährlich vom Senator für Kultur an Bremer Künstler:innen vergeben und umfasst einen zwölfmonatigen mietfreien Arbeitsraum sowie einen monatlichen Zuschuss für die künstlerische Arbeit. Ziel des Stipendiums ist, die jungen Künstler:innen beim Einstieg in das professionelle Berufsleben sowie der Vernetzung im Kunstbetrieb zu unterstützen und ihre künstlerische Arbeit vor Ort zu etablieren.

🙌 Welcome Yoriko Seto 🙌

Yoriko Seto is the new scholarship holder of the Bremen Studio Scholarship 2025.
Today Seto received the keys to her new studio, which she can now use for a year.

Yoriko Seto: “I am excited about the people I will meet at the Künstler:innenhaus. And it's the first time I've been able to use such a large workspace for myself alone.”

Yoriko Seto's artistic work includes drawings, artist books, animated films and, more recently, interactive objects.
The Bremen Studio Grant has been awarded annually by the Senator for Culture to Bremen artists since 2017 and includes a twelve-month rent-free workspace and a monthly allowance for artistic work. The aim of the grant is to support young artists in their entry into professional life, to assist with networking in the art world, and to establish their artistic work locally.

Am 24.01., um 19 Uhr eröffnet die Ausstellung “last seen recently” der Klasse Julika Rudelius/Philipp Gufler im KH Künstler:innenhaus Bremen.

In “last seen recently” präsentieren sich teils konfrontative, teils poetische Arbeiten, die versuchen an etwas festzuhalten, oder die Vergangenheit neu zu erzählen. Von Fotografie und Film über Videospiel und Performance bis hin zu vielfältigen Rauminstallationen, nutzen die Künstler:innen diese Medien, um sich Fragen menschlicher Erinnerungskultur und Wahrnehmung von Realität zu widmen. Wer erzählt Vergangenheit? Wie wird Erinnerung manipuliert? Wann schadet uns Erinnerung? Und wie geht man mit den dabei mitschwingenden Gefühlen um?

On 24.01., at 7 pm the exhibition “last seen recently” by the class Julika Rudelius/Philipp Gufler opens at KH Künstler:innenhaus Bremen.

“last seen recently” presents partly provocative, partly poetic artworks which attempt to hold on to something or retell the past in new ways. From photography and film to video games, performances to multifaceted spatial installations, the artists utilize these mediums to question the human memory culture and perceptions of reality. Who gets to narrate the past? How is memory manipulated? When do memories hurt us? And how does one grapple with the emotions which come from these reflections?
