The (SB64) kick off on 8 June.

Delegates and experts from countries around the globe are gathering in Bonn, Germany to lay the groundwork for ambitious climate decisions at in November – to protect people and economies from the devastating effects of climate change and unlock more jobs, more health and more resilient societies.

Coral reefs are one of the world’s most valuable ecosystems. 🐠🌊

On the frontline of the climate crisis, they are increasingly threatened by rising ocean temperatures, acidification and marine heatwaves.

Yet despite their small size, coral reefs have a mighty impact - supporting marine life, protecting coastal communities and playing an important role in the health and resilience of our oceans.

These colourful underwater forests cover just 1% of the ocean but they support 25% of marine life and sustain the lives of more than one billion people. They protect coastlines from damages by softening the forces of waves and storms, preventing erosion and safeguarding coastal inhabitants.

Coral reefs are critical ocean infrastructure, necessary for stabilising our climate and guarding our coastal communities.

Protecting coral reefs requires ambitious and accelerated climate action to safeguard one of the planet’s most valuable and vulnerable ecosystems.

Can cities get any cooler? 😎

Extreme heat is one of the most serious impacts of climate change, with major consequences for our health, economies, and infrastructure.

Heat maps show us how rising temperatures impact cities and reveal how urban design choices can make cities more livable in a warming world.

Football is a common language across the world, but climate change is already changing it, with extreme heat threatening the health and safety of both athletes and spectators.

But we also know that the game that brings billions together can also inspire action and drive climate solutions and resilience that benefits entire communities.

🦥 Sloths are built for cool, shady forests, not rising heat that pushes their bodies to stress and overheating.

🦋 Butterflies face shifting seasons, heatwaves and shrinking habitats, so only the most resilient can keep going.

🐬 Dolphins must cope with a warming ocean that moves their prey, forcing them to travel further and work harder just to eat.

🌸 Spring flowers are waking into “fake springs”, losing buds to late frost and wasting the energy they need to feed insects and wildlife later on.

🐦 Bird populations are declining as climate impacts intensify, especially in the tropics.

🌍 Rising global temperatures mean nature’s decline. Climate action is nature protection: cutting emissions fast, restoring habitats and backing bold climate policies is how we secure a future where people and nature can still thrive together.

The World Meteorological Organization warns that a strong El Niño could form from mid‑2026.

El Niño’s unusually warm waters can intensify storms in the central and eastern Pacific.

It raises the risk of heavy rainfall and flooding in places such as southern South America, the southern US, the Horn of Africa and parts of Central Asia.

It also brings drought to regions like Australia, Indonesia and parts of southern Asia.

These changes can damage harvests, strain water and energy supplies, and fuel wildfires in a world already warmed by climate change.

Faster, bolder climate action is needed to limit how much this weather pattern amplifies extreme events and to reduce its worst impacts.

Since the last time the United States hosted a football World Cup, in 1994, the risk of dangerous heat has doubled.

Matches this summer will be played in conditions made hotter by climate change, putting players and fans at risk.

A new report by World Weather Attribution shows: Approximately 25% of all games are likely to be played in heat conditions that are considered a health risk for players.

We must move faster to protect the game we love and everyone who watches it.

That means doubling down on the decisive shift to clean energy, which can be a game-changer for people everywhere.

New fossil fuels? In 2026? Groundbreaking.

Everybody wants a liveable future.

The Paris Agreement is how we get there, that’s what we are fighting for.

Wake up, sweetheart.

"We are, after all, the greatest problem solvers to have ever existed on Earth."

Sir David Attenborough reminds us that, together, we can tackle the climate crisis and protect our planet.

As he said at COP26 in Glasgow: "In my lifetime I have witnessed a terrible decline. In yours, you could and should witness a wonderful recovery."

Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough!

A long time ago, we were given one planet to call home.

The force to protect it?

Already with us, it is. Renewable energy. Global cooperation. Nature-based solutions. Innovative ideas.

Use it boldly, we must. 🌍✨
