Remembering The Infinite Now MAY 17/18 | SECOND DUSK 19:00 to 01:00

Joy Guidry opened the closing arc with bassoon, electronics and a powerful voice, long resonant tones worked against breath and live processing. Keiji Haino then performed with guitar and electronics at length and at volume, the room held under sustained pressure. Actress brought the programme into electronic territory, dub-derived textures and abstract production drawn out into a longer set, the room shifting into propulsion for the first time in nearly twenty-four hours. 2k88 with Rainy Miller and Bianca Scout followed with a collaborative set of voice and electronics drawing on the North West UK currents that connect their separate practices, their voices and textures stacking up in the main hall. Terrence Dixon then closed The Infinite Now from 22:55 with A Cosmic Display of Beauty, the long programme dissolving slowly into the steady pulse of his closing set.

Remembering The Infinite Now MAY 17 | DAY 12:00 to 18:00

Raphael Rogiński opened the afternoon with his solo guitar transposition of John Coltrane, single notes and bent intervals, the Coltrane material slowed into something closer to devotional listening than jazz performance. Aleksandra Słyż and Teoniki Rożynek then presented And the Sun Stood Still featuring the microtonal tuba trio Microtub, Słyż’s electronics and Rożynek’s composition setting brass overtones drifting through the hall in slow accumulation. Marta Salogni followed working tape, loops and dub-derived processing into a live electroacoustic set, textures spliced and re-spliced in real time. Marginal Consort closed the afternoon with their characteristic four-corner setup, the four members of the ensemble stationed at separate points around the room and the audience moving between them across nearly three hours of continuous free improvisation.

Remembering The Infinite Now MAY 17 | DAWN 08:00 to 12:45

Adam Wiltzie soundtracked the morning with A Tired Reworking of Stars of the Lid For the Sleep Deprived, material from the long Stars of the Lid catalogue thinned and slowed for bodies between rest and waking. Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke’s Kotoński Reworked followed at 10:00, a recorded installation processing and reframing Włodzimierz Kotoński’s early Polish musique concrète. At midday Romeo Castellucci and Scott Gibbons gave the second performance of To Carthage then I came, choreographed movement in-situ elevated through Gibbons’s sound design into the same tightly-held atmosphere as the midnight performance, this time received by an audience newly awake.

Remembering The Infinite Now
MAY 16/17 | NIGHT
23:00 to 08:00

Brighde Chaimbeul opened the night at 23:00 on Scottish smallpipes with drones holding the audience transfixed to a soundworld between the Gaelic piping tradition and long-form minimalism. At midnight Romeo Castellucci and Scott Gibbons presented the first performance of their new work To Carthage then I came. Choreographed movement in-situ was elevated through Gibbons’s sound design into a tightly-strung, sustained atmosphere that the audience absorbed in stillness. Paul Jebanasam followed with vast layered electronics that altered the gravitational weight of the room. Lois Patiño and Xabier Erkizia presented LIGHTS RUN DOWN MY THROAT (II), a two-hour collective dream sequence designed for an audience already moving towards horizontality, slow durational landscape cinema set against sustained drift, the room beginning to drop into rest as the piece unfolded. Then from 04:00 in the morning Kali Malone played Installation Works - a collection of her long-form organ and electronic pieces held the audience softly as they moved between sleep and listening across the deep middle of the night.
