𝟯/𝟭𝟯 GIANCARLO SCHIAFFINI — trombone
Giancarlo Schiaffini (b. 1942, Rome) — hailed as one of the pioneers of free-jazz and improvisational avant-garde movements — first graduated in Physics at the University of Rome in 1965. In the meanwhile, he appeared as a self-taught soloist in the first free-jazz concerts in Italy and subsequently presented his own compositions widely in the mid 1960’s. In the 1970's he switched to studying composition and electronic music, and since 1975 he's also shared his knowledge on trombone and trumpet techniques and improvisation as a teacher and via numerous publications.
During his extensive career Schiaffini has worked with world-famous musicians, including John Cage, Karole Armitage, Luigi Nono and Giacinto Scelsi. He's also the co-founder of the chamber ensemble Nuove Forme Sonore and the Italian Instabile Orchestra.

𝟰/𝟭𝟯 LIZ ALLBEE — trumpet
Liz Allbee (b. 1976, Vermont, USA) studied music and media studies at Mills College in Oakland, California. During her 14 years in the San Francisco Bay Area (1995-2009) she collaborated with Anthony Braxton, Rova Saxpohone Quartet, Fred Frith and others. Since moving to Berlin in 2009, she has participated in numerous festivals, including Wien Modern and Jazzfest Berlin.
As a composer-performer, she places a special emphasis on the imaginary potential of sound material, on electroacoustic composition and spatialisation. Allbee plays on a quadraphonic trumpet of her own design.

𝟱/𝟭𝟯 HARRI SJÖSTRÖM — soprano-, sopranino saxophone
The initiator and artistic director of the concert and festival series SoundScapes, Harri Sjöström (b. 1952, Turku, Finland) has founded numerous musical projects in the field of contemporary improvised music (including Quintet Moderne, Sestetto Internazionale, MOVE Quintet and Flight Mode) and has collaborated with many outstanding avant-garde musicians — for example Cecil Taylor (from 1990 to 2016), Derek Bailey, Teppo Hauta-aho, Paul Lovens, John Russell, and Paul Rutherford.
His music and fine art studies at Lone Mountain College, University of San Francisco and San Francisco Art Institute in the 1970s led him directly to workshops by John Cage, Bill Dixon, Vinko Globokar, George Russell, and his saxophone teachers Leo Wright and Steve Lacy. Back to Europe 1978, Sjöström finally ended up in Berlin, where he has been living and working since 1985.
