Liebe BTF-Crowd,
wir sagen’s ohne Umweg: Das Back To Future-Festival fällt dieses Jahr aus. Und ja, das tut weh, richtig weh.
Uns ist klar, dass das für viele von euch ein Schlag ins Gesicht ist. Ihr habt euch gefreut, ihr habt geplant, manche von euch kommen seit Jahrzehnten, viele seit Jahren – und jetzt das. Wir fühlen’s selbst. Aber die Wahrheit ist: Wir haben verloren. Und zwar gegen ein System, das Kultur frisst, solange sie sich nicht rechnet.
Wir müssen uns eingestehen: Wir wollten zu viel. Als wahrscheinlich dienstältestes aktives Punk-Festival hierzulande wollten wir mehr bieten, weiterdenken und dabei trotzdem das Herz am richtigen Fleck behalten. Wir haben versucht, mit viel Herzblut ein Festival zu schaffen, das sich wie ein Zuhause anfühlt. Einen Ort mit echtem Wohlfühlfaktor, einen Raum für alle. Wellness, im wahrsten Sinne. Doch gerade in einer Zeit und Gegend wie dieser, fernab von Förderungen und ohne die gewohnten städtischen Strukturen, hat das verdammt viel Geld gekostet.
Seit der Corona-Pandemie sind die Kosten explodiert. Alles kostet mehr: Technik, Sicherheit, Infrastruktur, Bandgagen, sogar Müll. Aber anstatt die Preise für euch durch die Decke zu jagen, haben wir versucht, das selbst zu schlucken. Denn Punk sollte kein Luxus sein.
Letztes Jahr saßen wir auf einem mittleren fünfstelligen Minus. Und dieses Jahr wär’s eventuell schlimmer geworden. Die aktuellen Ticketverkäufe und die erwarteten Zahlen sind nicht ausreichend, um das zu kompensieren. Es würde eine wesentlich größere Menge an Tickets erfordern, um die Lücke zu schließen. Wir haben gekämpft, gerechnet, gehofft. Es wird nicht reichen. Und deshalb sagen wir heute ganz klar: Dieses Festival, so wie ihr es seit 1996 kennt, gibt’s nicht mehr.
Aber das ist keine Kapitulation. Das ist ein Cut. Ein wütender, schmerzhafter, notwendiger Schnitt. Wir müssen uns neu sortieren, erstmal durchatmen, Strukturen überdenken und Ballast abwerfen. Mit etwas Glück und sehr viel Arbeit sehen wir uns wieder – anders, kleiner vielleicht, aber mit dem gleichen verdammten Feuer.
Alle, die bisher Tickets gekauft haben: Natürlich bekommt ihr euer Geld zurück. Aber wenn ihr könnt und wollt, lasst das Geld oder auch nur einen Teil davon da – zur Unterstützung und als Zeichen, dass ihr an uns glaubt. In den kommenden Tagen werden dazu noch weitere Informationen folgen. Wir bitten euch um etwas Geduld und darum, von eiligen Anfragen abzusehen. Danke für euer Verständnis!
Danke für euer Vertrauen, eure Treue, euren Support. Ohne euch gäb’s das alles längst nicht mehr in dieser Region. Wir kommen wieder! … Vielleicht anders, aber mit Haltung und mit Euch.

Dear BTF crowd,
we'll say it straight out: the Back To Future festival is canceled this year. And yes, it hurts, it really hurts.
We realize that this is a slap in the face for many of you. You've been looking forward to it, you've been planning it, some of you have been coming for decades, many of you for years - and now this. We feel it ourselves. But the truth is: we have lost. And against a system that eats culture as long as it doesn't pay off.
We have to admit it to ourselves: We wanted too much. As probably the longest-serving active punk festival in this country, we wanted to offer more, think ahead and still keep our hearts in the right place. We tried to put our heart and soul into creating a festival that feels like home. A place with a real feel-good factor, a space for everyone. Wellness, in the truest sense of the word.
But especially in a time and area like this, far away from subsidies and without the usual urban structures, it has cost a hell of a lot of money.
Costs have exploded since the coronavirus pandemic. Everything costs more: technology, security, infrastructure, even waste. But instead of driving prices through the roof for you, we've tried to swallow it ourselves. Because punk shouldn't be a luxury.
Last year, we were sitting on a mid-five-figure deficit. And this year it would only have gotten worse. The current ticket sales and the expected figures are not enough to compensate for this. It would take a much larger number of tickets to close the gap. We have fought, calculated, hoped.
It won't be enough. And that's why we're saying quite clearly today: this festival, as you've known it since 1996, is no more.
But this is not a capitulation. This is a cut. An angry, painful, necessary cut. We have to reorganize ourselves, take a deep breath, rethink structures and get rid of ballast. With a bit of luck and a lot of work, we'll see each other again - different, smaller perhaps, but with the same damn fire.
Everyone who has bought tickets so far: Of course you'll get your money back. But if you can and want to, leave the money or just a part of it - to support us and as a sign that you believe in us. More information will follow in the coming days. We ask for your patience and ask you to refrain from urgent requests. Thank you for your understanding!
Thank you for your trust, your loyalty and your support. Without you, there would no longer be any of this in this region. We'll be back! ... Perhaps differently, but with attitude and with you.
