🎬 We had the privilege of hosting the German premiere of Birds of War at our award ceremony last week. Thank you to the directors, authors, and protagonists Janay and Abd Alkader for joining us in Berlin and reminding us that stories remain one of the strongest tools to fight back against dominant narratives.

A heartfelt thank you to all our guests and filmmakers who shared their perspectives, opened up their creative worlds, and made these conversations so meaningful. And to the people in front of the camera—thank you for allowing us see your realities, your struggles, and your relentless fight. None of this can be taken for granted—quite the opposite. ✨Last night, we celebrated our Awards Ceremony✨Three prizes were presented: the W***Y BRANDT DOCUMENTARY FILM AWARD went to Mothers of Chibok by Joel Kachi Benson, the YOUTH AWARD to There Was, There Was Not by Emily Mkrtichian, and the AUDIENCE AWARD to Runa Simi by Augusto Zegarra.
Our closing film, Birds of War, directed by Janay Boulos and Abd Alkader Habak — who are also the protagonists of the film — told a deeply moving love story between a Lebanese journalist living in London and a Syrian activist and cinematographer, brought to life through thirteen years of personal archives spanning revolution, war, and exile. We were truly honored to welcome the directors, along with producer Sonja Henrici, on stage.
A huge thank you to our wonderful audience — your energy, openness, and support made this night so special.

Join us as we honour the courage of those who stand up for human rights under immense risk, and the filmteams who make these realities visible.

As a final centerpiece, we are proud to present the German Premiere of the outstanding Sundance-winning documentary film BIRDS OF WAR.

We are happy to welcome director, writer and producer Janay Boulos, director, writer and producer Abd Alkader Habak, and producer Sonja Henrici for a conversation after the German Premiere, offering a rare opportunity to engage directly with the important voices behind the film. The evening will be moderated by Jenny Perez (journalist).

18:00 - Admission & Reception: Join us for a welcome drink, and the opportunity to connect before the event begins.
19:00 - Start Awards Ceremony: Doors open at 18:45, and the ceremony will begin at 19:00
With the Audience Award, the Youth Award, and the W***y Brandt Documentary Film Award, we will present three prizes to outstanding filmmakers and their teams.
