TEDDY AWARD

TEDDY AWARD TEDDY AWARD - The Queer Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival The TEDDY AWARD has not only cultural meaning.

The TEDDY AWARD is a socially engaged political award, which benefits films and persons who communicate queer topics on a broad social level and thus contribute to more tolerance, acceptance, solidarity and equality in society. As long as queer life in parts of the world is threatened with the death penalty and even in cities like Berlin homo- and transphobic violence is the order of the day, the

TEDDY AWARD also has a political meaning and responsibility. The TEDDY AWARD is presented within the framework of the Berlin International Film Festival in the categories: Best Fiction Film, Best Documentary/Essay Film and Best Short Film, as well as a Special-TEDDY AWARD for the artistic life achievement to outstanding personalities. Films from all sections of the Berlin International Film Festival - most of them world premieres and international premieres - compete for the TEDDY AWARDS every year. The series of previous TEDDY AWARD winners includes international star directors like: Pedro Almodóvar, Gus Van Sant, Derek Jarman and Werner Schroeter up to international screen stars like Helmut Berger, Joe Dallesandro, John Hurt and Oscar winner Tilda Swinton. The TEDDY AWARD is a non-profit event and is financed by contributions of the supporting members and patrons of the Teddy Foundation, by donations of supporters, the commitment of many volunteers as well as by sponsors and by the income of the award ceremony gala.
