Run with LIGHT and support the project „Thousand eyes for Africa“
March 2015, Prague. The non-governmental organisation LIGHT FOR THE WORLD started a campaign „1000 eyes for Africa“ with the aim to collect financial support, which is needed to carry out 1000 eyes (cataract) operation to restore eyesight. Esecially runners, who can still register for Prague Half Marathon (28.3.2015) and help blind people in Africa. 800 Czech crowns of the registration fee, which is the price of one cataract operation, will go to the people in need in Africa.
„Our ambitious plan is to collect 800 thousands crown, which will cover cataract operations for 1000 blind people in the development countries,“ explains Cestmir Hrdinka, the director of LIGHT FOR THE WORLD in the Czech republic. „We believe that runners will register for the international Prague Half Marathon and support our project in this way. Any runner who register through SVETLO PRO SVET, will save eye-sight from one blind person.“
The international Prague Half Marathon is already sold out but LIGHT FOR THE WORLD still has registration numbers available. There is also chance to register for the Volkswagen Marathon, which will take place on 3rd May.
„The eye clinics we support carry out thousends eye operations yearly, mainly cataract and eye lid operation (trachoma). Most of the clinics have also mobile teams that regularly visit rural areas and offer eye care to people who otherwise would not be able to come to the clinics. One catarct operation costs 800 Czech crowns (30 EUR),“ is pointed out by Cestmir Hrdinka.
The association was established in Czech Republic in August 2007 as a sister organization of NGOs confederated in LIGHT FOR THE WORLD network. This network of NGOs has been successfully helping the visually impaired since 1988.
