B10 Live is a music & art space in Shenzhen, organized by OCT-LOFT and curated by artist Teng Fei and independent music curator Tu Fei. B10 Live has been presenting over a hundred live music performances to the audience annually since 24 Nov. 2012, including 2 distinctive festivals: OCT-LOFT Jazz Festival a

nd Tomorrow Festival. More and more different types of art events will be held here in the near future.

This April, Friko released their second full-length album, Something Worth Waiting For. Just as the title suggests, the record unfolds slowly, like a long-awaited spring arrival. This four-piece indie band from Chicago had already made a strong impression with their 2024 debut album, carrying forward the rich spirit of Midwest indie rock from the turn of the millennium: raw, cracked vocals, gentle and expansive string arrangements, and a sincere, emotionally charged vintage indie texture.

On this follow-up, Friko fully amplifies their dramatic indie aesthetic. The album also features contributions from several outstanding musicians, with hazy, tender string arrangements and refined production adding new depth to the band’s emotional expression. Across the record, whether through deliberately detached delivery or a recreated sense of laid-back retro vocal texture, the music reaches its most captivating moments when the lead singer’s emotions break through directly, with a voice that trembles with real feeling.

This summer, Friko will return to China for a three-city tour in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing. Don’t miss it!

The band, which originally formed in Chicago in 1990, comprises Dan Bitney, John Herndon, Douglas McCombs, John McEntire, and Jeff Parker. Initially hailed as pace-setters of an emergent, cinematic instrumental evolution of alternative rock, the Chicago Tribune called Tortoise’s sound ”mood music that refuses to be shoved into the background, as inviting as it is challenging.“ Releasing just seven albums since 1990 — including classics like 1996‘s Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1998’s TNT, and 2001‘s Standards — Tortoise has steadily and intuitively evolved across its life, creating genreless music that is as timeless as it is ahead of the curve.

Touch marks Tortoise’s surprise new release, following a hiatus since 2016. For the past three decades, Tortoise has consistently forged ahead with a fiercely independent style, while maintaining a rare and resilient ability: to incorporate other cutting-edge sounds while remaining firmly rooted in their origins. Their first new work in nine years advances precisely in this spirit—creating that signature, timeless, and genre-defying music.

In August, Tortoise will return to China for two special live shows in Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth will present a curated screening from the documentary Put Blood in the Music (1989), directed by Charles Atlas. Through a collage of performance, interviews, and commentary, the landmark documentary explores the early 1980s downtown New York music scene, captures the creative energy and artistic pluralism that defined this influential cultural moment.

Following the screening, Shelley will participate in a live discussion reflecting on the era, including Sonic Youth‘s work during that time and the broader artistic landscape of early 1980s New York City. The talk will offer firsthand insight into the band’s development and the experimental scene that shaped their sound and legacy.
