2-Methyltetrahydrofuran(2-MeTHF) compare with Tetrahydrofuran(THF) have advantages in grignard reactions:
1. Compared with THF, 2-MeTHF has a lower freezing point and a higher boiling point, and its application range as a solvent is wider;
2. Compared with THF, 2-MeTHF has a lower solubility in water, and THF is miscible with water, so the recovery of 2-MeTHF in the aqueous phase is relatively easier and the recovery rate is higher;
3. 2-MeTHF has a lower evaporation rate and is easier to store;
4. THF is easily oxidized, and it is more dangerous during storage, transportation and use;
5. 2-MeTHF is relatively less toxic;
6. The solvent polarity and Lewis basicity of 2-MeTHF are between THF and ether.
