The BMMF would like to congratulate Prof Xiaogang Ye, founding artistic director, on the completion of the studio recording of his opera in four acts Song of Farewell, preceded by a concert performance of the opera by the same cast at the Hangzhou Grand Theatre on October 14th.
Running from Oct 16-19, the studio recording was joined by Yang Yang conducting the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, leading soloists including tenor Xiahou Jinxu and soprano Yu Guanqun, the China National Opera Chorus and six Peking opera musicians.
Taking place at the concert hall of the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, the project was overseen by the composer himself and produced by Jakob Händel, a veteran producer and recording engineer who has developed a large discography connected with Chinese music and musicians since 2004.
Guo Haiou, executive director, was also there in the studio throughout the session managing the project.
