Swiss Orienteering Week The Swiss Orienteering Week is an international multiday orienteering event that combines holidays with sport and a pinch of adventure.

Swiss Orienteering Week means orienteering at a top technical level, extensive possibilities for tourism, interesting cultural offerings and atmospheric social events. In the week from 16th to 22th July 2023, around 4'500 orienteers from over 30 countries will compete in 50 age groups and classes at the Swiss Orienteering Week. The six races in the region of Flims Laax Falera will turn your active

holiday into a dream holiday. In 2023 the Swiss Orienteering Week is the partner event of the World Orienteering Championships, held in the week just prior the SOW. This is another good reason the turn you compass to Switzerland in summer 2023.

An der Swiss O Week 2026 kommt erstmals Hitchhike zum Einsatz – eine digitale Mitfahrplattform speziell für Events.

Damit wird es einfacher, Fahrgemeinschaften zu bilden, freie Plätze anzubieten oder eine Mitfahrgelegenheit zu finden – alles zentral über eine Plattform, die eigens für die Swiss O Week eingerichtet wird 🌱

💡 Die Idee dahinter:
Weniger Verkehr, nachhaltigere Anreise und mehr Austausch innerhalb der OL-Community – einfach und bequem unterwegs.

Super Châtel (FRA/SUI) - Die Liebliche / L'étape charmante / The Lovely Stage

The conclusion of Swiss O Week will be another truly cross-border stage. From Châtel, participants will take the gondola to Super Châtel. The race will start in France, with the middle section taking place on semi-open pastures and closed, technically demanding forest sections in Switzerland, before the final sprint leads back to France. Changing pace and technique between the different terrain sections is crucial – but even more important will be to really enjoy this last, wonderful stage of the SOW 2026.

La fin de la Swiss O Week est marquée par une autre étape véritablement transfrontalière. Depuis Châtel, la télécabine emmène les participants à Super Châtel. Le départ est situé en France, la partie centrale se déroule dans des pâturages semi-ouverts et des zones forestières fermées et techniquement exigeantes en Suisse, avant que le dernier sprint ramène les participants en France. Les changements de rythme et de technique entre les différentes sections du parcours sont décisifs, mais il sera encore plus important de profiter pleinement de cette dernière étape merveilleuse de la SOW 2026.

Der Abschluss der Woche bildet eine weitere, wahrhaft grenzüberschreitende Etappe. Via Châtel geht es mit der Gondelbahn nach Super Châtel. Von Frankreich aus wird gestartet, der Mittelteil findet auf halboffenen Weiden und geschlossenen, technisch anspruchsvollen Waldpartien in der Schweiz statt, bevor der Schlussspurt zurück nach Frankreich führt. Tempo- und Technikwechsel zwischen den Geländekammern sind entscheidend - noch viel wichtiger wird es aber sein, diese letzte, wunderbare Etappe der SOW 2026 nochmals richtig zu geniessen.

Portes du Soleil (SUI) - Die Sonnige / L'étape ensoleillée / The Sunny Stage

Once again, the start is at Les Crosets, at an altitude of around 2,000 metres above sea level. Here, the Dents du Midi are almost within reach. But don't let the wonderful view distract you too much. The competition takes place in open, hilly terrain and it is important to have a good grasp of all the peaks, hollows and rocks if you want to get through as error-free as possible. Everyone will be allowed to punch the control on the Portes du Soleil pass before heading down across alpine meadows to the finish line.

Le départ se fait à nouveau à partir des Crosets, à environ 2 000 mètres d'altitude. Les Dents du Midi sont ici à portée de main. Mais il ne faut pas se laisser trop distraire par la vue magnifique. La compétition se déroule sur un terrain ouvert et accidenté, et il est important de bien maîtriser toutes les crêtes, les creux et les rochers si l'on veut terminer sans commettre d'erreur. Tous les participants pourront timber le poste au col des Portes du Soleil avant de descendre vers l'arrivée à travers les alpages.

Wiederum von Les Crosets geht es an den Start auf ca. 2’000 MüM. Die Dents du Midi sind hier zum Greifen nah. Von der wunderbaren Aussicht sollte man sich aber nicht zu fest ablenken lassen. Der Wettkampf findet in offenem, kupiertem Gelände statt und es ist wichtig, alle Kuppen, Mulden und Felsen genau im Griff zu haben, wenn man möglichst fehlerfrei durchkommen möchte. Der Posten auf dem Pass “Portes du Soleil” werden alle stempeln dürfen, bevor es über Alpweiden hinunter ins Ziel geht.

Après trois étages de télésièges, on atteint le centre de compétition à Les Lindarets, à 1 500 mètres d'altitude, d'où le départ vers Avoriaz est prévu. Les contours uniques de la station ont valu à Avoriaz d'être officiellement reconnue comme l'une des grandes réalisations architecturales du XXe siècle. Et quoi de mieux que la course d'orientation pour découvrir un tel endroit ? Après un sprint dans le village, la course se poursuit sans interruption dans la forêt, techniquement exigeante, pour la deuxième partie. Ceux qui le souhaitent peuvent changer de chaussures entre les deux.

Die einzigartigen Konturen des Ferienorts haben Avoriaz die offizielle Anerkennung als eine der grossen architektonischen Errungenschaften des 20. Jahrhunderts eingebracht - und wie könnte man einen solchen Ort besser entdecken, als durch OL? Nach einem Dorfsprint wird nahtlos in den technisch anspruchsvollen Wald für den zweiten Teil gewechselt. Wer mag, darf dazwischen seine Schuhe wechseln.

After three chairlift stages, you will reach the competition centre in Les Lindarets at 1,500 metres above sea level, from where you can get to the start in Avoriaz. The unique contours of the resort have earned Avoriaz official recognition as one of the great architectural achievements of the 20th century – and what better way to discover such a place than through orienteering? After a village sprint, the race seamlessly transitions into the technically challenging forest for the second part. Participants are allowed to change their shoes in between if they wish.

Plaine Dranse (FRA) - Die Himmlische / L'étape céleste / The Heavenly Stage 🪨🌲⛰️

Von Frankreich aus erfolgt die Anreise mit Sesselbahnen auf über 2’000 MüM in ein weiteres fantastisches OL-Gelände. Hier warten zahllose Kuppen, Mulden und vor allem Felsen auf die Teilnehmenden. Konzentration ist wichtig, denn das Gelände ist nicht überall gut einsehbar. Gute Feinorientierung-Fähigkeiten sind hier ein Vorteil und auch die Fusskoordination wird gefordert - eine technisch anspruchsvolle und geländemässig spannende Etappe.

Depuis la France, le trajet se poursuit en télésiège jusqu'à plus de 2 000 mètres d'altitude, où se trouve un autre site fantastique pour la course d'orientation. D'innombrables collines, cuvettes et surtout des rochers attendent les participants. La concentration est importante, car le terrain n'est pas toujours bien en vue. De bonnes compétences en orientation fine sont ici un avantage et la coordination des pieds est également sollicitée - une étape techniquement exigeante et passionnante sur le plan du terrain.

Starting in France, chairlifts take participants to another fantastic orienteering terrain at over 2,000 meters above sea level. Here, countless hilltops, hollows, and especially rocks await the participants. Concentration is important, as the terrain is not easily visible everywhere. Good fine orientation skills are an advantage here, and foot coordination is also required – a technically demanding and exciting stage in terms of terrain.
