Last weekend we hosted another festival here at the beautiful location of Echoes of the Steppe: and it was amazing! The stage, the atmosphere, the setup… everything came together perfectly. Here’s some shots from last weekend!

Now we’re ready for the big one: on August 30th our stage will come alive with the powerful sounds of Mongolia and Tuva. 👉 Echoes of the Steppe – Europe’s first Throat Singing Festival & Competition – right here in Romainmôtier. 
We can’t wait. Just a few more days until history is made!

Throat singing competition registrations are closed – we are FULL!

Europe’s first-ever Throat Singing Festival & Competition is about to happen… and we couldn’t be more excited. This is a true milestone: the very first time a throat singing competition is held in Europe! We’ll welcome participants from 13 different nationalities! 🇳🇱 Netherlands 🇭🇷 Croatia 🇺🇸 USA 🇨🇭 Switzerland 🇨🇿 Czech Republic 🇦🇹 Austria 🇲🇳 Mongolia 🇩🇪 Germany 🇫🇷 France 🇱🇺 Luxembourg 🇷🇺 Tuva (Russia) 🇮🇹 Italy 🇨🇳 China.

It’s amazing to see how this tradition, rooted in the vast steppes of Central Asia, connects people across the world.

For this first edition we are keeping it fairly simple: one round, where each participant will perform twice: first an a ca****la piece, focusing purely on the throat singing techniques, and second a song of their choice with an instrument of choice. An expert jury of Baatarsuren Chadraabal (Mongolia), Igor Koshkendey (Tuva) and Rowan Hartsuiker (Netherlands) will listen closely, looking at technique, musicality, and creativity.

Performances will be judged on three key aspects: technique, musicality, and creativity. The jury will use a detailed evaluation form to score and write their impressions, also noting: overall impression, strengths and suggestions. This way, every performance is considered with care and consistency, ensuring a fair and thoughtful process.

Still, beyond points and prizes, we believe there are no true losers here. Simply being part of Europe’s very first throat singing festival and competition already makes each participant a winner. We are deeply proud to celebrate this milestone together. Of course, to honor excellence, we will also present special awards to the top performers. 🏆
