SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD

The Service Above Self Award is considered the highest honour that Rotary International (RI) can bestow on a member. It recognizes up to 150 outstanding Rotarians and Rotaractors each year whose service activities make an impact on humanity.

Rotaractors are members of Rotaract clubs — a global network of young leaders affiliated with Rotary International. Rotaract, meaning "Rotary in Action," represents young adults dedicated to community service, international projects, professional development, and leadership training, and are often described as a “friendship factory” for networking and positive change.

No more than one recipient is selected from a given district each year, and a person can receive the award only once.

Nominees must be in good standing with their club, and may not be current, incoming, or immediate past governors, RI directors, RI presidents, or Rotary Foundation trustees. Nominees must have demonstrated exemplary continuing humanitarian service, in any form and at any level. Emphasis is placed on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary, rather than one’s performance in an elected or appointed Rotary assignment.

The Rotary Club of Kentville was very proud to see District Governor Marcel Gervais award Garth Gordon of Kentville with this VERY special award which recognizes his outstanding contributions.

Exciting exhibit coming to the Yarmouth County Museum!

Money in 10 Questions: Kids Edition is a play-based exhibition, developed by the Bank of Canada Museum in Ottawa, that helps children understand money and how to handle it. This exhibit will be available for viewing at the Yarmouth County Museum from May 27th to August 15th, 2026. We’d like to send a thank you to our sponsors for this exhibit, Michael MacDougall, Senior Investment Advisor for BMO Private Wealth and the Rotary Club of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

In 2020, the Bank of Canada Museum asked kids what they wanted to know about money. More than 800 questions flooded in from across the country. The questions were thoughtful and complex, while some were just plain fun. And the Bank of Canada Museum answered them all. Money in 10 Questions: Kids Edition is built around 10 of these questions, such as “Why do you have to work for money?” and “Can money be dinosaur bones?” These questions act as springboards to explore concepts that are important for children and their families to understand as they navigate through the economy

The tour of the exhibition is managed by Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation

👔 Happy International Men’s Day from Yarmouth Ribfest! 👔

Today, we celebrate the men behind the grill, the pitmasters, the volunteers, and the community heroes who bring the flavor and fire to every Ribfest. Your hard work, passion, and dedication make this event unforgettable year after year.

As we recognize your contributions, we also want to acknowledge the importance of men’s mental and physical health — because taking care of yourself is just as important as bringing the best BBQ to the table.

Here’s to the men who keep the BBQ smoke rising and the good times rolling — we appreciate everything you do!
