Three goals going into Suffer on Centennial this past weekend:
Goal A: Personal best ❌
Goal B: Finish in time to catch the third period of the Canadiens game ❌
Goal C: Finish ✅
This course is no joke. Way tougher than last year, and I quickly got the unfriendly reminder that the Canadian Shield doesn’t care about your training plan, your pace targets, or your feelings.
The conditions were wild, and some portions of the “run” felt more like a hands-and-knees climb that could’ve been included in a Navy SEAL training video.
Regardless, I had set my expectations low and was ready for anything, which really helped my frame of mind going in.
This was definitely “Type 2 fun” for me.
Mostly filled with suffering (hence the race name “Suffer on Centennial”) and pretty painful in the moment, but incredibly rewarding once you finish.
I really do think everyone needs a little Type 2 fun in their life.
A huge thank you to the volunteers and organizers ( / ) who make days like this possible. Standing out there for hours so the rest of us can voluntarily suffer in the woods is no small thing.
Very grateful.
100km trail races are ridiculous.
But I’ll probably do another one.
Suffer on Centennial really lived up to the name!!
