Volunteer Week Spotlight: Wellesley Apple Butter & Cheese Festival🍎🧀

The Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival has been an annual tradition in the village of Wellesley since 1975. For the past 50+ years, we have put thousands of dollars back into the community. The festival is organized by a hard working, dedicated group of volunteer committee members, who work all year long to prepare for our one day event. On top of the Festival organizing committee, we rely on hundreds of volunteers to help make the event go off without a hitch. Whether it be set up on the Friday before the event, working on festival day, or cleaning up the day after, we could not make this all happen if it weren't for the many volunteers. NEW Wellesley Village Entrance Signs! 🎉

We have new gateway entrance signs on Nafziger Road and Queens Bush Road, entering the village of Wellesley. The signs were installed in early September, replacing the old ones, which were originally installed many years ago by The Wellesley & District Lions Club, and have been maintained throughout the years by Lions members. The project was completed and funded wholly by the The Wellesley Apple Butter & Cheese Festival Committee, using funds raised from the 2024 festival. The cost of the new signs exceeded $23,000 and all costs were paid for by the ABC festival, with no burden to local taxpayers. The project was spearheaded by Michael Fritz, a member of The Wellesley Apple Butter & Cheese Festival Committee and a local resident since 1992. After much discussion, committee members chose the colour palette and sign content to reflect a rural themed sign design. Upon obtaining sign permits from Wilmot and Wellesley Townships and getting authorization from landowners, the signs were manufactured and installed by Signs Galore Inc. A GREAT addition to our village, thank you ABC Festival!

The Apple Butter and Cheese Festival donated $1500 to support the Wellesley Fire Department's community fruit orchard.

"This project is a great example of the community coming together to create something that we can watch grow and eventually enjoy. Seeing the ABC Festival funds grow into a productive orchard is going to be a great opportunity for the community to watch (the trees grow and produce fruit) right next door to our great recreation complex.”

The Festival donated $1500 to help the Wellesley Fire Department plant a community orchard.

A recent challenge posed to Township of Wellesley Fire Rescue by the Perth East Fire Department’s Milverton station has led the Wellesley fire department to plant a 12-tree urban fruit orchard beside its station in the Village of Wellesley, next to the Wellesley Recreation Complex.

We are thankful for our community, our craft and food vendors, apple fritters, pancake & sausage breakfasts with friends and family, good weather, our sponsors, apple butter, cheese, our talented musicians and entertainment, and our amazing volunteers!
