Today we say goodbye to one of the true giants of jazz. Sonny Rollins passed away at 95, leaving behind a legacy that transformed modern music through fearless improvisation, boundless creativity, and one of the most recognizable sounds in jazz history. From groundbreaking recordings to generations of inspired musicians, his influence reached far beyond the tenor saxophone.

We were honored to welcome Sonny Rollins to the Victoria JazzFest stage in 2007. A remarkable night that remains part of the festival’s history and the story of jazz on the Island.

His music, spirit, and sound will continue to resonate for generations to come.
