There's still spots open for this Sunday's Rigging Awareness class. It's 2 pm to 4pm. Contact [email protected] or PM for more information

Essential Rigging Awareness for Aerialists:

We’ll be going over common (and some uncommon) pieces of rigging gear, how to know if they’re appropriate for your act, what kind of structures should or shouldn’t be rigged from, common forces from various acts, basic rigging techniques (although this is NOT a rigging course), plus various red flags that performers should be aware of.

Thanks again to Bass Coast Festival for having us✨

The Rigging Awareness course last Sunday went very well, but I did have complaints from people about the late notice. I will be running it again for the next two weeks, Sunday Aug 24th and 31st, 2 pm to 6pm.

Please email me at [email protected] for more information or to reserve a spot.

Course description:

Essential Rigging Awareness for Aerialists
In days of yore, aerialists grew up in circus families, and learning what kind of rigging is safe, and basic rigging principles were just part of your daily training. In modern times, it’s common for aerialists to have almost no idea of safe rigging practices.
The problem is that there’s no certification for live load rigging in North America. There are industry standards, but no way to determine whether the people who rig aerialists work to those standards, or are even aware of them.
For any aerialist interested in performing, it’s essential to have enough knowledge of rigging principles to at least be aware of when a situation might be getting into unsafe territory.
The course I offer takes participants through the four principles of rigging;
Know what you’re rigging
Know what you’re rigging it from
Know what you’re rigging it with
And know the actual techniques of rigging

This is not a full rigging course, although we’ll be going over many of the techniques of rigging. This is a course to help keep you safe when walking into a new performance venue or training facility, knowing what to look for and what questions to ask.
The course is taught by Peter Boulanger, a live load rigging specialist with over 30 years experience rigging for circus, theatre, stunts and special events. Peter is currently the technical director of the Underground Circus.

Recently, due to bad rigging, a silk acrobat was injured in a Cirkus Smirkus show. While we all hope for a strong recovery, he will likely remain injured for a considerable time. It’s reported that four of the young acrobats in the show came to the organizers with concerns about the rigger. While their concerns were not acted upon, at least they had the knowledge necessary to see the red flags in the rigging and the rigger’s behaviour. Would you?
This Sunday, Aug 17, I’ll be giving my course on “ Essential Rigging Awareness for Aerialists. This is a four hour course that, while it’s not a course on how to rig, teaches rigging concepts so that aerialists can recognize the red flags in various situations.
Course is four hours, 2 pm to 6 pm. email [email protected] to reserve a spot, or ask any questions.
