All elements are Latin American - with the performers and participants being both BC based as well as internationally known talent both local and flying in from Latin America.

“The festival’s focus is on the Latino Jewish community whose presence and contribution has really grown in Vancouver with immigration from various Latin American countries. We have a significant Spanish speaking community of both Ashkenazi and Sephardic traditions and our aim is to present some of the world class artists in our midst as well as guest performers from Latin America.”

¡Festival Judío! Celebration plans to entertain, enlighten and to offer lively enjoyment with world class performers of music and dance, to screen films, present lectures and an art and book sale. The week long festival will appeal to all visitors from both the general and Jewish communities who wish to enjoy the rhythm and sensory appeal of Jewish Latin America’s rich music, art and cultural offerings.

The event schedule to be released in June opens with a ‘milonga’ - a social event or location for tango dancing — more simply, a milonga is a tango dance party. The week of public events is sealed at its close with an evening of a riotous blend of samba and klezmer!

“We believe it is time to showcase the significant talent of writers, composers, filmmakers and other creative artists that have emerged from Jewish communities across Latin America and who now live in our community. They express both the Jewish experience and that of Latin life.
