“You survived the night.”

With a profound title derived from the traditional Secwepemctsín morning greeting, Oscar-nominated director Julian Brave Noisecat's debut book, We Survived the Night, is a gripping wonder that blends history, mythology, memoir and reportage.

NoiseCat made history as the first Indigenous filmmaker from North America to receive an Oscar nomination for his directorial debut, Sugarcane, at the 2025 Academy Awards. He is also the first Indigenous North American author to ever write about healing from intergenerational trauma by getting stoned with his dad, for the The New York Times Magazine.

Join us on Friday July 10 at Waterfront Theatre for a conversation between Julian and our Executive Artist Director, Am Johal, with a book signing to follow. 🎟️
