The 2025 Fire Dragon Festival was yet another exciting chapter in the history of Vancouver’s cultural celebrations. This event served as a way to create a space for the community to come together – hundreds of spectators lined the streets, numerous news outlets covered the event, and an endless sea of smiles stretched from Carall to Columbia. This year’s celebrations saw the debut of the world’s first all-female Fire Dragon team that inspired young girls to connect with an ancient tradition. And it breathed more life into Chinatown, showing the passion and resilience that has defined this century-old neighbourhood.
The history of the Fire Dragon Festival itself dates back to the traditions of the Hong Kong Hakka, who have been performing this special dance to ward off evil spirits and disease, as well as bring blessings to their homeland, for over 200 years. With the help of our Hakka community members participating in the proceedings (special thanks to our friends Sunny and Haru), we hope to honour these traditions through our performances for years to come.
The Fire Dragon Festival would not have been possible without the generous support from our sponsors, the Government of Canada and .
We are also grateful to the tireless work done by our operations team, volunteers, artists, and performers, who came together in the name of the greater Chinatown community.
Specifically, we would like to thank , and the community volunteers that designed and crafted the 60-foot dragon. We would also like to acknowledge the dragon dance performers: , , , , , and community volunteers who took on the challenge of the dragon dance and made this unique performance come to life.
And lastly, we would like to thank , whose talents behind the camera highlighted the most spectacular parts of the performance.
