*** UPDATE***

Hello everyone.

The Heavy Events on PEI currently has no set date for an event at this time for 2023.

We want to thank everyone for their interest.

Please don’t forget to check out the other Highland Games festivals taking place in the Maritimes this summer like the New Brunswick Highland Games Festival July 28th-30th, 2023 in Fredericton!

Also reach out to your local clubs to inquire about fun small community activities for the family. On PEI, this would be the Caledonia Club and the Lord Selkirk Campground.

Thank you all and looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Want to know more about the heavy events before the action begins?

Let's review!

STONES: Two styles: The “Open Stone” (where competitors are allowed to move their feet), and the “Braemar Stone” where the competitor must throw from a standing position.

WEIGHTS for DISTANCE: The weight is held in one hand as the athlete spins around. The weight will build tremendous energy leading up to its release.

HAMMERS: The hammer is a lead ball attached to a handle. Starting out slow, building speed as they go, the competitor swings the hammer around their head releasing it “blind” over the shoulder. Watch for some unique “footwear” in this event.

WEIGHT OVER BAR (WOB): The weight is swung with one hand between legs and then thrown up and over a bar landing just behind the athlete.

CABER TOSS: There is nothing more awe inspiring than to watch a person pick up a twenty-foot log, settle it into their hands, then run and flip it end for end. Cabers all vary in size, generally from 17 to 21 feet in length and weighing from 100-l8Olbs.

SHEAF TOSS: The athlete must “pitch” a 16 lb - 20 lb stuffed burlap bag up and over a horizontal bar using a pitchfork. Watch for these world-class athletes to reach heights of 32- 34 feet.

Now you're ready to watch the TOP ATHLETES in the WORLD tackle these events right here in Moncton!
