As many of you know, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica last week and caused severe damage and destruction to communities across the country.
Over the weekend, we went out and got various items to be sent down for relief and rebuilding. We highly recommend persons in the GTA who would like to support bring items from the priority list in this post to the Jamaican Canadian Association located at 995 Arrow Road in North York. They are working tirelessly to organize aid packages that are being sent down to partners on the ground in Jamaica. Monetary donations are also important for rebuilding, but please be vigilant and only donate through recommended websites.
Jamaica has a long road to recovery, and support like this will be needed consistently over the next few months. We appreciate everyone who has reached out to share resources for support and we ask our SAFEHOUSE family to do their best to help our Jamaican brothers and sisters in their time of need. Do what you can, but let’s take action.
