⛏️ The dust has settled, the tools are down, and the NATIONAL KING MINER 2026 was CROWNED! ⛏️👑

The 2026 National King Miner Contest during Nickel Days in Thompson, Manitoba has officially concluded, celebrating the skill, strength, determination, and proud mining heritage that define our community.

🏆 2026 National King Miner — Josh Forest

🥈 1st Runner-Up & Rookie of the Year — CJ Hamel

🥉 2nd Runner-Up — David Lasaga

🏅 3rd Runner-Up — Kerry Roberts

Congratulations as well to all competitors and event winners who showcased their talents in the Team Event and Individual Events, including Blake Lundie, Evan Bercier, Broderick Bale, Stephan Wolanski, Brendan Steinthorson, Kenny Randell, Scott Kennedy, Sean McKenzie, Cody Reimer, Colby Taylor, Corey Jones, and all participants and proudly represented the spirit of mining excellence.

While only a few names appear at the top of the standings, every contestant who competed, trained, and gave their best helped make this year's competition a tremendous success.

🎶 What an unforgetable night, Thompson! 🎶

The crowd was singing so loudly, it nearly drowned out the speakers as we celebrated an incredible performance by Dean Brody at Nickel Days 2026!

Nearly 1,000 fans packed the C.A. Nesbitt Arena for an unforgettable evening filled with amazing country music, high energy, and hometown pride. From the opening song to the final encore, the atmosphere was absolutely electric.

A special thank you to Mother Groove – Dreams and Rumours for setting the perfect tone and getting the crowd ready for an incredible night of live entertainment. 🎤

Thank you, Thompson, for helping create another unforgettable Nickel Days memory. The music may have ended, but the excitement is still echoing throughout the city! 🎉

What an incredible day of laughter, teamwork, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories at the Nickel Days Family Games! From exciting challenges to heartwarming moments, families came together to celebrate the true spirit of community.

For those who may have heard, there was a medical emergency at our fair when an attendee suffered a cardiac arrest.

Thanks to the quick actions of two of our board members—one an ER trained RN (Ronnie Keough) who initiated CPR and AED use, and the other a member of TFES (Matt Flamand) — as well as several bystanders who immediately assisted with CPR, TFES and members of Select Shows and Canuck Amusements, the individual received CPR and critical care until emergency responders arrived and transported to hospital. We are grateful to share that the person is alive however in unstable condition at the hospital. We are wishing them a speedy recovery.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who stepped in to help, including those who assisted with CPR, our dedicated board members, and TFES for their rapid response and professionalism. Their teamwork, training, and willingness to act made a positive difference and contributed to a successful outcome.

🎪 Did you hear the laughter, see the smiles, and catch the flying candies? 🍬✨

The streets of Thompson came alive as families, friends, and visitors lined the roads to witness one of Nickel Days' most cherished traditions—the Big Top Circus Parade, proudly presented by the Lions Club.
From colorful floats and community sponsors to dedicated volunteers spreading joy along the parade route, the celebration brought together children, seniors, and people of all ages. Waves were exchanged, candies filled eager hands, and countless smiles lit up the crowd as the parade made its way through the city.

More than just a parade, it was a celebration of community spirit, tradition, and the memories that make Nickel Days so special year after year.
