Look at this amazing group of people who give so much back to people in Windsor/Essex through their volunteer efforts!

The Committee for Mayor McNamara's Annual Charity Golf Tournament couldn't be more humbled to support their work with proceeds from this year's event. This morning, a total of 17 organizations, with the main beneficiary being the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association, benefited from the funds we raised through sponsorships, and silent and live auction items donated by amazing businesses and individuals who support us year after year (THANK YOU!!).

Sharing proceeds of $50,000 are: 35th Tecumseh Scout Group, Golden Rescue, Cats Cry Too, the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society, Siro Martinello Memorial Bursary Fund, St. Vincent de Paul Society Tecumseh Chapter, Goodfellows Tecumseh Chapter, Farrow Riverside Miracle Park, Terry Fox Run, Tecumseh Friendship Club, Days for Girls, Tecumseh Thunder Baseball Club, the 1112 The Windsor Regiment Army Cadet Corps, All Creation Mystical Outreach, Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County, Fantastic Fathers and, of course, WETRA.

We would also like to sincerely thank Kathy from Cookies by Kathy, for the donation of treats (cookies, of course, emblazoned with the golf tournament and WETRA logos) for our participants and volunteers). This is the 3rd year Kathy has "gotten in the saddle" to support our event and we are extremely grateful. We are also fortunate to be able to offer our participants a complimentary Caesars Bar hosted by NE1 Spirits (https://ne1spirits.com/) also for the third year. I don't think I've tasted a better Caesar with all the trimmings!

With preparations for our 16th Annual Golf Tournament well under way, our committee remains focused on growing the event to continue to support local groups that require assistance. With proceeds from the last 15 tournaments totalling well over half a million dollars donated to groups within our community, we look forward to your support with the donation of a silent or live auction item to help us sprint to the finish line! Honestly, we just can’t rein in our enthusiasm!

Being hosted at Beach Grove Golf & Country Club on Monday, September 8, our committee is excited to partner this year with the Windsor Essex Therapeutic Riding Association (WETRA) and to support the multitude of programs they provide for so many individuals in Windsor/Essex.

Nestled on a beautiful 73-acre property, WETRA boasts an indoor riding arena, a viewing room and common area, as well as two large barns that house 20 therapy horses along with other animals that all play a vital role in their therapeutic programming.

Over the past 50 years, WETRA has assisted thousands of children with a wide range of disabilities and currently provides therapy to approximately 200 individuals on a weekly basis. While the majority of participants are children with developmental, emotional, or physical disabilities, programming is also extended to isolated seniors, first responders, and other community groups.

Through EAAT (Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies), participants are able to gain a sense of freedom and independence, learn new skills, interact socially, experience unique accomplishments and create emotional connections with horses and people that offer acceptance and unconditional affection and create bonds that can last a lifetime.

As you can imagine, the costs associated with running a facility of this magnitude, and WETRA’s continuous endeavours to expand programming for the individuals they serve, are substantial. Our Tournament Committee is excited to provide proceeds from this year’s tournament to support WETRA’s program expansion, animal care and facility repairs, as required.

Thank you very much for assisting an organization that supports countless individuals in our community through the dedication of their staff and countless volunteers who continually strive to make a huge difference to everyone they serve. Through your support we will quickly get out of the gate!

If you have any questions or would like to receive a complete registration package, please let us know.

Thank you very much to our fantastic, repeat in-kind sponsors: The Bloomin' Gardener, NE1 Spirits, McDonalds and, of course, Families First Because We Care. As well, we sincerely appreciate the Major Sponsors who have signed on so far: Ground Effects, WFCU and the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.

Another amazing tournament under our belts, and another $56,000+ donated to deserving organizations in our community, bringing our total giving to over $600,000 since 2009.

On behalf of Mayor Gary McNamara and his hard-working Charity Golf Tournament Committee, we would like to thank representatives from all of the organizations receiving funds that attended the cheque presentation on November 21.

This is the ultimate reason why the volunteer committee and the Mayor hold this tournament and we are thrilled to be able to support each of these 20 organizations with a portion of the total funds raised and hope that, in some small way, we are able to assist them with continuing to provide the vital programs and services they offer to those in need in our community.

Thank you to all of these groups for all that they do to make Windsor/Essex one of the best places to live!

Mayor McNamara’s Annual Golf Tournament’s Committee is looking forward to reaching another milestone as we begin preparations for our 15th annual event. We are so extremely proud to have donated more than half a million dollars to assist vital groups in our communities and we are requesting your support to help us build upon the successes of the last 14 years.

As always, this year’s tournament will host our valued participants on the pristine course at Beach Grove Golf & Country Club with Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare’s Satellite Cardiac Care Rehab Facility in Tecumseh as our main beneficiary for the September 9th event.

With nearly 4,400 people living in Windsor-Essex hospitalized every year for heart disease or stroke-related issues we know that, while support for these individuals is available, the need is still great. We are excited to announce that the Cardiac Wellness Program currently available at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) will be setting up a satellite location in Tecumseh to provide medical, educational, exercise, nutritional and psychosocial support for people with cardiac-related concerns.

With this new satellite location in Tecumseh, patients will learn more about their heart health, medications, nutrition, as well as be able to advantage of an exercise program and stress management program while they recuperate from their heart-related issues. Individuals eligible for the program include those who have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, cardiac transplant, angioplasty, stable CAD/angina, unstable angina, valve replacement, congestive heart failure, or cardiomyopathy within the past year.

We hope you share our commitment to supporting a vulnerable sector in our community where we can offer them a location that makes it easier to access services they require to recover and thrive from heart-related issues.

Attached is our sponsorship/registration package. If you have any questions,, please contact the Tournament Coordinator, Julie Bortolotti here.
