Sydney RibFest

Sydney RibFest The summer's favourite festival is on July 17, 18 & 19, 2026 The annual Rotary Ribfest will take place at Open Hearth Park.

On July 15, 16 and 17th, Sydney will come alive with the smell of BBQ’ed ribs, fantastic food vendors, a kid’s entertainment zone and the sounds of music from local Cape Breton bands and artists. The Rotary Ribfest brings the excitement of family oriented fun for all ages and the thrill of competition together for three days of entertainment and amazing food. Some of North America’s greatest rib t

eams are coming to Sydney to compete for top awards. The essence of Rotary is to give back to the community and this year all net proceeds from this Rotary fundraiser will be donated to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation's Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund, and Caleb's Courage, as well as other community projects. Ribfest is free to attend; we encourage all attendees "Give a little at the gate" for our selected charities. Rotary Ribfest has been made possible from the strong support from our community and local business sponsors.

The Sydney Sunrise Rotary Club believes in staying connected to the community. For many years now, members of the Club have had a very special relationship with residents of Pine Tree Park. Several times a year, members spend time with the residents playing bingo, enjoying some treats and each other's company.
Rotarian's enjoy the visit as much as the residents. The smiles are as genuine as the friendships that have developed over the years.
We are always welcoming new members, come join us. We meet every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. At the NSCC Waterfront Campus, Building B, 5th floor boardroom.

Rotary is all about service; it's also about making connections. We do that by asking our members to tell us about themselves, their families and the journey that brought them to the community and to the Sydney Sunrise Rotary Club. On April 2nd, Kasom Nzule spoke to the Club about her life in Nigeria and her hopes to build a career combining engineering and supply chain management.
Kas ran a boutique in Nigeria for ten years before earning a BA in chemical engineering in Nigeria and a Masters degree in environmental engineering from the U.K.
Kas chose to resettle with her family in Atlantic Canada, embracing the quieter, calmer lifestyle. Married with 3 boys, it has been a challenge to relocate to a new country with all of the cultural changes that can bring.
Kas enjoys music as well as health and fitness. A Rotarian since her days in University, she believes in making a meaningful difference in the community and supporting vulnerable populations. She appreciates the opportunities for continued professional development and personal growth that Rotary provides.

Meet the members of the Sydney Sunrise Rotary Club

Cheryl Card is now retired, but many will know her as the former co-owner of Boston Pizza. A member of Rotary for many years, she joined because she wanted to be a part of something while giving back to the community both here at home and internationally.

Cheryl says Rotary has expanded my life in many ways. Through the guest speakers and Rotary activities, she has learned about, and have become involved with, our community. Cheryl says Rotary has challenged her to grow.

She also enjoys the sociability of the club, and the enjoyment of working together.

Meet the members of the Sydney Sunrise Rotary Club

LeeAnne MacLeod Archer is a retired judge who originally joined Rotary to make business connections and get involved with the community. She stayed for the connections to real people. Her favourite part of being a Rotarian is the people that are part of the Club and those we meet working on projects throughout the community.
