Looking for a unique holiday gift for someone who loves to create? Rock Lake Weaving Studio is now offering Learn to Weave and Project classes.

Learn to Weave is a comprehensive 12 hour set of classes (flexible scheduling is available) that covers the how and why of basic weaving on a floor loom. The perfect choice for someone who likes to understand how things work, and is interested in weaving.

Project classes are less intense, they are half day classes, where students come to the studio, and are greeted by a loom that is ready to weave on. Right now scarves are the project on offer, but if someone wants to weave another item, please ask. This is perfect for people who just want to try weaving, and see a little bit of the technical side to it. You will leave with a mostly finished item (projects will need to be washed/dried at home, and possibly hemmed), and a good sense of what it is like to weave.

When threading complicated repeats, I tuck the last bundle in a repeat over the front shaft (or otherwise mark it…..IKEA bag clips are great, as are tiny hair clips). Then if you make a mistake before the end of the next repeat, it is easy to go back to the start of the repeat and check your threading.
