Rauhala Rauhala is a privately owned heritage farmland, on Malcolm Island. With over 104 acres of forests, grassy fields, a creek, campgrounds and beaches.

With over 104 acres of forests, grassy fields, a creek, campgrounds and beaches, stretched across a kilometer of oceanfront. Spectacular views of the ocean and mountains of northern Vancouver Island. In our very own private bay, nestled on the outskirts of the town of Sointula. Rauhala, meaning 'Place of Peace." is an original Finnish homestead from the early settlers. The site is a living museum, frozen in time. Left untouched for half a century, hidden away behind walls of forest, ocean and a rocky bluff.

My mother, Nancy Olga Poulton/Lanqvist, holding up a jar of canned green onions that her mother, my grandmother, "T***s", Johanna Laura Davis/Poulton, canned back around 1960.
A cruise ship passed by and dropped overboard a crate full of green onions, most of which were still good. They were found on the beach at Rauhala, known as Rauhalanranta or T***s' slough. Gramma T***s decided to can them and this jar of canned green onions still looks like it was canned just a few years ago. However it's been over 60 years when it was canned and the seal is still good. We won't be throwing it away. Things like these tell the story.

The end of an era.
My Dad, Davie Lanqvist and Uncle Leslie Lanqvist once owned a sein boat called the Millionaires.
The Millionaires was built in the Williams boat house and was originally called the Wilma W. named after Bill Williams' daughter.
Today we say good bye to this historic landmark.

It's been 5 years today, since our last family journey out past Rauhala to Mures.
It's been a decennial tradition to hike out to Mûres and carve our initials in an alder tree. A tradition first started when I was born 45 years ago.
