Their performances build ambient soundscapes through slow progressions of meticulous improvisation, bringing quiet to even the noisiest of rooms. Open Window is the experimental ambient project started by Peter Grier in 2016. Tape loops and samples are made from chance improvisations of Peter’s home recordings resulting in soothing ambience, drone and beat driven experimental music. Sometimes vocals are present, sometimes not. You never know what will blow in from an open window.

It is with immense sadness that we learn of the passing of Éliane Radigue at the age of 94. An early collaborator in the field of musique concrète, working first with Pierre Schaeffer and then Pierre Henry, Éliane Radigue went on to carve out her own path with unparalleled freedom and vision. She pursued an exciting musical life, moving from electroacoustic feedback to electronic music (with the help of her inseparable ARP 2500) and finally reinventing herself through fruitful collaborations with numerous instrumentalists, notably around the OCCAM OCEAN cycle. A major figure in musical creation has left us. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and collaborators.

Theme: Future

In 2026, Nuit Blanche Saskatoon invites artists to imagine and create from the perspective of the future. We welcome visual art, performance, interactive installations, community engagement, sound, and film that explore what lies ahead through your unique lens.

Consider how today’s choices shape tomorrow. Speak from the future: What would you change now to build a brighter world?

We encourage bold, diverse visions—including traditional sci‑fi—embracing Asian Futurism, Afro‑Futurism, Indigenous Futurism, LGBTQ2S+ Futures, and more. Engage with themes such as environment, agriculture, culture, economy, engineering, and artificial intelligence.

Strong applications should encourage public interaction, engage viewers, transform public spaces, be fun, and/or share unique perspectives. Projects should incorporate light, sound, and spectacle as this is a night-time event.

Learn more about this year's call, submission guidelines, and review our application form by visiting NBYXE.ca.

An act of Indigenous Futurism, Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ is the electronic music project of Elisa Harkins. Singing in Cherokee, Muscogee, and English, Harkins becomes a language guardian, fighting extinction whilst crafting a head-bouncing beat. Combining disco and phonological preservation, Harkins strives to decolonize expectations of how pop music should look and sound, while bringing Indigenous representation to the field. In Harkins’ cosmos, pressed vinyl and radio play become radical tools of language conservation and transmission.

This performance of Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ refers to wampum belts and Indigenous peacekeeping, as well as the Cherokee use of wampum beads as currency. ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ, pronounced a-de-la di-ga-gu-di, can be translated to “money on a string.” The intention of this Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ performance is to create a metaphorical peacekeeping agreement between the spectators of the piece, regardless of tribe or race.

Presented by Unheard Sound collective in collaboration with the Remai Modern Art Gallery and supported by PAVED Arts, PR Productions, and Nokomis Craft Ales. Poster design by Parker Thiessen, photograph by Ian Byers-Gamber.
