Festival Artist Highlight - Yagody

Each moment in a person’s life has its own song – says Zoryana Dybovska, who founded Yagody in 2016 in the West Ukrainian city of Lviv. Travelling through different regions of Ukraine to explore the musical traditions of the people there, Yagody create their own exciting sound mix, supported by musicians on drums, guitar, accordion or the drymba, a mouth harp of the Hutsul people from the Carpathians.

Yagody’ which means ‘berries’, repertoire consists of poetic songs from Ukraine, building a very diverse and energetic world of melodies, rhythms and themes, which they blend uniquely to captivate audiences. Undoubtedly one of the most charismatic Ukrainian folk bands!

Get ready to experience Mitsune 蜜音 this summer!

With a sound that blends traditional Japanese folk with psychedelic, cinematic and ritual music, serving modern folklore with a punk mentality, the heart and soul of Mitsune is the Tsugaru shamisen, a traditional 3-stringed lute popularised by blind wandering musicians of olden Japan.
Mitsune both honours and modernizes shamisen tradition, conveying their own stories through this ancient instrument. Their eccentric and electric live show is filled with raw energy, decadent visuals, and a sprinkle of humour.

Up next Sinkane

We think you are going to like this one!

Led by Sudanese-American multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab, Sinkane resists genre. It’s pop. It’s funk. It’s electronic. It blends the gritty punk newness of a 70s and 80s New York with the steady, foundational soul of the rhythms of his native Sudan. The band pulses with the energy of different eras and forms, celebrating freedom. Freedom to create, to move, to love, to live.
