Congrats to this year's winners! :)
We are so very proud to present the finished Youth Quilt & Art Project photography piece being installed this year in Market Square.
The annual youth arts competition has a particularly meaningful connection to this year’s theme being the Tartan. Students of southern school districts were invited to receive a 10X10 square of material to adapt into their own expression of their identity as a quilting project. The winning entries of the quilt competition will be incorporated as a feature of the new official New Brunswick Citizen Quilt. This quilt is a component of a project in development between Ampersand and Elsipogtog First Nations elders.
〰️Grand Prize Winner is Tyler Patterson, from Compass Education Support Program.
〰️Elementary School winner is Ella Cosman, from Lakewood Heights.
〰️Middle School winner is Lilla Christie from Princess Elizabeth.
〰️High School winner is Elizabeth Fitzpatrick from Saint Malachy’s Memorial.
🔜 Be sure to join us on June 21st, National Indigenous People’s Day ceremony and during the leadup to Canada Day! 🇨🇦 This year’s event will welcome indigenous representation from across New Brunswick, including the Tobique and Elsipogtog. The day will be in memory of Gary Sappier, who has been part of the festivities in Saint John for a number of years. Gary’s unexpected passing earlier this year is a great loss for the arts of our region and the day will pay respects to him.
Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to seeing you all on the 21st.
