Strathbutler artist Brigitte Clavette opens an exhibition of copper enameling in Nod to Helena at Gallery 78 in Fredericton.

This work emerged through her long support of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and her recent residency in the Bruno Bobak. Inspired by Sutherland’s portrait of Helena Rubinstein in the gallery’s permanent collection, Clavette has designed new jewelry as a personal homage to the woman and the art.

Opening reception: Friday, September 11 at 5pm at 796 Queen Street, Fredericton.

L’artiste Strathbutler Brigitte Clavette présente Nod to Helena, une nouvelle exposition d’œuvres en émail sur cuivre, à la Gallery 78 de Fredericton.

Cette nouvelle série est née de sa longue relation avec la Beaverbrook Art Gallery et de sa récente résidence au Bruno Bobak Centre. Inspirée par le portrait d’Helena Rubinstein réalisé par Sutherland, qui fait partie de la collection permanente de la galerie, Clavette a créé une nouvelle série de bijoux en hommage à la fois à cette femme remarquable et à l’œuvre qui l’a inspirée.

A one-day workshop where participants will learn the basic steps of producing a 5x 7” copper plate etching. This hands-on workshop will teach students how to: prepare an etching plate (bevelling, degreasing, adhering a backing), apply a hard ground, transfer an image onto the plate, draw on the plate using an etching needle, etch the plate in acid, ink the plate and print using the press.

2026-27 is the Elm City String Quartet's fifth concert season: to celebrate, each member has individually curated a concert that revisits two of their favourite quartets from the ensemble’s back catalogue. Their first concert is a rocking one to kickstart the season, featuring Piazzolla’s Tango Ballet, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 3, and F***y Hensel Mendelssohn (yes, Felix’s overlooked sister) String Quartet in E-flat major.
