3/3 We added a new element to the tournament this year. We had U9s play a game to give the older players a break before the finals. We saw a random group of Ridge Meadows Burrards play a team mainly from Coquitlam Adanacs, but also had players from Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Burnaby and Langley. We hope to continue this tradition in the future.
This year’s Service Award went to Andrew Guindon. Andrew is an integral part of the Burnaby Lakers Minor Association and has just recently coached in the Vancouver Warriors Elite Program and head Coach for the U13 Team BC team that finished 2nd in Halifax this past summer.
This year’s champions were a team that came out of no where, team leader was Justin Digby. First time entry and quickly became the team to beat in this year’s tournament. The Outlaws went undefeated leading up to the Finals. Beer Hunters had the tie breaker advantage vs the Burnaby Fire team by a 3 goal differential to be the other team in the finals. Outlaws came out of the first half with a 3-1 lead. At the end of the regulation time it was 6-6. Sudden death overtime would decide this year’s champion. The game winning goal was scored by Lukas Neilsen. This year’s MVP went to Noah Armitage.
Other stand out players of the day were Marcus Davis, Adam Noakes, Ross Manson, Randy Jones, Connor Stroup, David Bigley, Joel McCready, Brett Mydske, Craig Smith, Brodie Gillespie, Austin Ducomonn, Kai George, Gordy Phillips, Blake Duncan, Alex Bodin, Toru Morimatsu, Anthio Yuen, Russ Heard, Ian Paterson, Ryan Leonard, Jordan Magnuson, Patrick Szabo & Keifer Flynn.
