Hector Heritage Quay is officially open for the season, and while the Ship Hector herself is still undergoing restoration work, the gangway is down and visitors can once again step aboard and experience this incredible vessel up close.
Inside the Interpretive Centre, visitors are immersed in the stories of those who arrived aboard the Hector in 1773, and the hardships they faced upon reaching these shores. The experience also honours the vital role of the Mi’kmaq people, whose knowledge, guidance, and generosity helped early Scottish settlers survive in an unfamiliar land.
Outside, the story continues in real time as skilled shipbuilders and an onsite blacksmith carry on the painstaking work of restoring the ship. The sound of tools, the smell of fresh timber, and traditional craftsmanship unfolding along the waterfront make this far more than a museum visit. It’s living history in motion.
