Letโs recognize Access Awareness Week in Nova Scotia!
This week reminds us of the importance of creating communities where everyone feels welcomed, included, and valued. Accessibility goes beyond ramps and elevatorsโitโs about removing barriers, promoting understanding, and ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Letโs continue learning, listening, and taking action to build more accessible communities.
Jitney Trail Access:
The paving of the first 1.5 kilometres of the Jitney Trail improves accessibility for a wide range of users, including individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, mobility scooters, strollers, and bicycles. A smooth, stable surface reduces barriers that may be encountered on gravel or uneven terrain, making outdoor recreation and active transportation more accessible. Accessible trails encourage physical activity, social connection, and opportunities to enjoy nature for people of all abilities.
Weโre also proud to offer other accessibility support to our community through resources like the Equipment Loan Program, Accessible Recreation Opportunities, Inclusive summer camps, Assistive listening systems at Council Meetings and the deCoste Centre, and more supports that help people participate fully in community life.
