What a fantastic day for a dash of Tartan! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦

​Our Kilt Skate event this past February 22nd was a resounding success! It was incredible to see so many people brave the ice in their kilts and finest plaid to celebrate the deep historical connection between Scotland and Canada, and most importantly Renfrewshire and Renfrew!

​The atmosphere was absolutely electric, thanks to:

Renfrew Highland Pipes & Drums: A massive thank you for volunteering your time and talent. Your performance truly set the mood (and the pace!) for the skaters.

​Mayor Tom Sidney: We were honored to have the Mayor join us to say a few words and help kick off the festivities.

Town of Renfrew: Thank you for your continued support in making community events like this possible.

Did you know if you own a kilt you could skate for free at Braehead this weekend as part of the Great Canadian Kilt Skate?

Last year Renfrewshire were honoured to be announced as joint Kilt Skate Capital along with our twin town of Renfrew in Ontario and I'm so excited to build on that success this year and see many more people taking part.

On Saturday there will be free entry to the 2:30pm public skating session at Braehead for anyone wearing a kilt. If you don’t have a kilt, bring along something tartan and receive £2 off the cost of your session. There'll be some great local community acts performing throughout the afternoon.

At 7pm the Clan will take on the Fife Flyers in the Kilt Skate game.

The Great Canadian Kilt Skate started in 2015 between Ottawa, Calgary, Montreal and Winnipeg. Now the event includes around 15 communities across Canada and internationally.

I love that we can celebrate our shared heritage with our friends across the pond in such a fun and memorable way and hope to see many of you at the public skate or the game.
