The full schedule for the 16th annual Parrsboro Film Festival is here, and tickets are on sale now.

Our 2026 lineup brings you feature films, documentaries, and shorts, all with an Atlantic Canadian connection.

Friday evening opens with a Gala Reception at the PFF venue, The Hall, located at 44 King Street, Parrsboro. First on the program are two short documentary screenings, followed by the screening of the opening night feature film. After the feature, join us for a Q&A session with producers of the opening night feature. New this year, stay for our afterglow social and connect with fellow film lovers.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2

Saturday starts early with the Short Film Competition and Audience Choice Awards presentations. Afternoon and evening screenings of features and documentary films will be followed by Q&A opportunities.

The Muse (2025) | 18 minutes

Produced by the National Film Board of Canada

When 74-year-old Robert Tilley agreed to take photographer Ting Ting Chen on a road trip across Newfoundland, neither could have predicted the deep, cross-generational friendship that would blossom between them, nor how Robert's role in Ting Ting's art would challenge traditional ideas of the artist-muse relationship. This touching short film explores the concepts of aging, memory and identity while demonstrating the power of creative connection.

Blueberry Grunt (2025) | 85 minutes
Written and Directed by Sherry White

Vivian and Harold embark on a blueberry-picking camping trip to celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary. However, Harold's constant chatter and Vivian's quiet judgment create a bubbling tension, hinting that things aren't quite right between them. When Harold reveals plans to cut their trip short, a fight ensues, uncovering details of a traumatic event related to their son, Jacob. As their argument escalates into a life-or-death situation, Vivian has to head out on her own to seek help, despite never learning how to drive the ATV or paying attention to the route. She encounters several mishaps on her journey, while Harold struggles with the solitude of his precarious situation. But they must disentangle themselves from this dependence if they ever hope for a happy ending.

The Snake is a Canadian comedy film directed by Jenna MacMillan in her directorial debut, written by Susan Kent, and released in 2026. The film stars Susan Kent as Jamie, an "ungovernable" wild woman whose abrasive behaviour leads to upheaval in her personal life after a conflict with her mother Anne (Robin Duke) gets her evicted from her mother's home. She initiates an affair with her best friend's husband after being dumped by her own boyfriend. The cast also includes Jonathan Torrens, Dan Petronijevic, Emma Hunter, Kim Roberts, Kenny Robinson, Jacqueline Robbins, Joyce Robbins, and Jimbo in supporting roles. Shot in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in 2025, it premiered March 13, 2026 at SXSW, the first PEI-shot film ever to premiere at a major international film festival, and has been acquired for commercial distribution by Game Theory Films.

There's a Flower in My Pedal | 4 minutes
Written and Directed by Andrea Dorfman

A short film about biking and love, made in Halifax, NS, through the Atlantic Filmmakers' Co-operative.

Blending live action and animation in a collage style, There's a Flower in My Pedal is a poetic meditation on facing up to fear and insecurity, inspired in part by a childhood memory of Andrea Dorfman's mother, who never rode her beloved bicycle again after a minor injury from a fall. The film premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received an honourable mention for the Best Canadian Short Film award, and also won at the 2005 Atlantic Film Festival. In 2023, it won the Grand Jury Prize at the International Cycling Film Festival in Herne, Germany.

Hairy Legs is a charming, feel-good animated short from Emmy Award–nominated filmmaker Andrea Dorfman. At 13, Dorfman’s decision not to shave her legs became a small but life-changing act of defiance, opening her eyes to the roles and rules imposed on women.

Blending stop-motion puppetry with hand-painted animation, the film celebrates curiosity, creativity, and the messy, magical journey of growing up. Warm, witty, and deeply relatable, Hairy Legs invites viewers to embrace self-expression, question conformity, and discover the freedom in being yourself.
