A at the 1934 Bedford WLG Horsebox Registration LG 7174, the oldest horse transport on wheels still around today 🐎
It's also the oldest Bedford Truck in existence!
It has an original body by Vincent’s of Reading with a 1931 prototype Bedford WLG chassis.
This horse box was designed to carry not 1, not 2, but 3 horses, and also featured two rear seats for attendants travelling with the horses. Plus, the horse box was outfitted with a bell system, allowing attendants to communicate with the driver.
Back in 1934, the price of a Vincent Horse Box started at just £425 for a two-horse model.
The LG7174 is also a film star, having appeared in the movie 'The Remains of the Day' featuring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, and in the Jeeves and Wooster television programmes.
In 2024, Ecclestone Horse Transport Inc. purchased the historic Bedford, and it made its journey across the Atlantic Ocean by cargo ship. After being at sea for 14 days, the truck finally landed at the port of Halifax, where it was transported by truck to Ontario.
Since its arrival, it has undergone a full, concours-level restoration. From top to bottom, the entire chassis and horse box were restored to their former glory!
We're very excited to see this truck at the 2026 Concours d'Elegance next Sunday (Sept 20th)!
