Did you know that nearly 4 in 10 people on the North Shore were born somewhere else?

Today they are a cherished part of this community, but while they have bought into this country, they still have customs, culture and traditions that deserve a stage and we are thrilled to provide it!

Last year Bulgarian Folk Dancers performed in full traditional costume. Gold embroidery, red stockings, coin headbands, the kind of detail that you only get right if you’re from there.

They rehearsed for months. The crowd stopped. People filmed it. Some of them cried. Seeing a piece of your heritage being celebrated is heartwarming, and this is what we love to do.

That is what Festivibe is.
September 19, The Shipyards, North Vancouver.
Free entry.

Every culture gets a stage.
This year we are spotlighting a new community. Stay close.

The first question we always get is: why do we do this?

The answer is simple. Our community is made up of dozens of ethnicities. Each one carries its own customs, dances, and traditions - things that took generations to build and cross oceans to preserve.

And what’s more, Canada is a young country. It does not have that same depth of history as Asia, or Europe, Africa or Middle East. But it does have something truly special: every culture that has chosen to call it home.

Festivibe exists precisely because of this. Because we believe that the breath of multicultural riches of Northern Vancouver deserves more than coexistence. It deserves a stage.

Whether your heritage is thousands of years old or a few hundred, we all call North Vancouver home. And this is worth celebrating out loud.

September 19. The Shipyards. Free admission.

Maya Angelou beautifully captured the essence of human connection when she said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” This timeless wisdom reminds us that our true impact lies not in our words or deeds, but in the emotional resonance we create.

Emotional memories are powerful and enduring, often shaping our relationships and interactions more profoundly than we realize. As we navigate through our daily lives, let’s prioritize kindness, empathy, and genuine connection. Make it your goal to leave a positive, lasting emotional imprint on those around you. The way we make others feel is the true legacy we leave behind. 🌺

Embracing the spirit of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, as a celebration of renewal, forgiveness, and hope. 🌸 This secular festival, dating back over 3,000 years, marks the spring equinox, symbolizing new beginnings for both people and the Earth. Rooted in Zoroastrian traditions, it features the joyous Shab-e-Charshanbeh Souri where individuals leap over fires to cleanse themselves of the past year’s hardships and to welcome strength and health. Preparations include setting the haft-seen table with items that each hold deep symbolic meanings, from health and beauty to patience and forgiveness.

The haft-seen table is adorned with seven items, each beginning with the Persian letter ‘S’ (س), and each holding a unique significance:

1. Seeb (apple) represents beauty, reminding us of the aesthetic and spiritual beauty that enriches our lives.
2. Seer (garlic) symbolizes health and medicine, a nod to the importance of wellbeing and the healing powers of nature.
3. Somagh (sumac) signifies the color of sunrise, heralding the dawn of a new day and the promise of new beginnings.
4. Sabzeh (green grass) stands for rebirth and the renewal of nature, echoing the themes of growth and rejuvenation central to Nowruz.
5. Serkeh (vinegar) embodies patience and the ability to age gracefully, imparting wisdom on the passage of time and the maturity it brings.
6. Senjed (olive) signals love, fostering the hope that love will flourish in the coming year.
7. Samanu (pastry paste) reflects the power and strength of forgiveness, encouraging us to move forward with a clear heart and mind.

Alongside these items, a mirror for reflection, flowers to symbolize Earth’s healing, eggs representing life, and a live fish reflecting our connection to the animal world are also placed, often accompanied by a religious or poetic book for spiritual or intellectual reflection.

May this Nowruz bring you and your loved ones beauty, health, new beginnings, growth, patience, love, and the strength of forgiveness 🌸

🎉🏮🐉 The Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, is one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals in many Asian cultures. Its origins date back over 4,000 years, with rich traditions and legends that vary across different regions and communities.

Legend has it that the festival began with the mythical monster Nian, who would terrorize villages every New Year’s Eve, devouring crops, livestock, and even people. To protect themselves, villagers would hang red lanterns, set off fireworks, and make loud noises to scare away the beast. This tradition evolved into the vibrant celebrations we see today.

The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and symbolizes new beginnings, renewal, and the arrival of spring. Families gather to clean their homes, decorate with red lanterns and auspicious symbols, and prepare festive meals. The color red is prominent, believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck and prosperity.

Each year is associated with one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, rotating in a 12-year cycle. People born in the Year of the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, or Pig inherit certain characteristics believed to influence their personalities and fortunes.

The Lunar New Year celebrations typically span 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival. It’s a time for family reunions, honoring ancestors, exchanging gifts, and wishing each other health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead.

Despite its ancient roots, the Lunar New Year remains a vibrant and cherished cultural celebration, bringing communities together to share in the joy and spirit of the season. 🌟🎊

Achievers and those who have achieved success often attest to the profound truth embedded in the phrase “Every journey starts with dreams.” Successful individuals frequently share stories of humble beginnings, where a simple dream or vision served as the catalyst for their remarkable journeys.

Dreams act as a driving force, compelling achievers to overcome challenges, persevere through setbacks, and continually strive for improvement. Before the realization of tangible success, there exists a period of intense focus on the dream – a period marked by dedication, hard work, and unwavering belief in the envisioned outcome.

In essence, the phrase captures the universal truth that the path to success is paved with dreams. It underscores the significance of setting goals, envisioning possibilities, and pursuing those aspirations with unwavering determination. As achievers share their stories, they reinforce the idea that every noteworthy accomplishment begins with a dream, igniting a journey of growth, resilience, and ultimate triumph 🌟

I still don't practice mindfulness as much as I should but I am getting there. One thing I like to do is to read positive quotes. I also like to write them down on random pages of my notebooks or diaries which then always puts a smile on my face when I come across them.

I am a huge Disney fan. I was a Disney kid and i'm now a Disney adult. Disney is my happy place. There are so many inspirational quotes in all Disney films, books and from Mr Walt Disney himself.

Today i'm sharing some quotes from Winnie the Pooh and A.A Milne that help me with my PND and mindfulness. To be honest they are fab quotes for life in general but these ones really put a smile on my face when I am down. They are perfect for reflecting on love, attitude, self worth, patience, judgement, you name it there's a quote for every thought and feeling.
