Last night, I attended the Black Excellence Event in honour of Black History Month. The evening was a heartfelt celebration of the remarkable legacy of Dr. Saint-Fermin Monestime, Canada’s first Black Mayor and the Mayor of Mattawa. His daughter, Vala Monestime-Belter, shared her father’s powerful and inspiring story. The event was made even more special by captivating performances of Nipissing University student and poet, Simba, and the talented musician, Akeem-Oh. Thank you to NUSU and Nipissing Arts & Culture for all your work in organizing this great event!

Introducing the talented Lisa Boivin. Starting this week "Lunenburg" live on stage February 5-9th.

Lisa Boivin along with Kelly Martin and Allan MacAskill Return To The Stage !
Date: February 5-9, 2024
Location: École secondaire publique Odyssée
480 Norman Avenue, North Bay
Maureen Cassidy and Lisa Boivin, two talented co-directors, promise to deliver an unforgettable night of comedy and romance in the upcoming production of “Lunenburg”. The award winning cast brings this Canadian favourite to life.
Lisa Boivin rounds out this ensemble and is sure to delight audiences as she has done so many times in the past.

Lisa studied Music Theatre at Sheridan College where she honed her skills in various plays/musicals - "On the 20th Century", "The Crucible", and "How to succeed in business without really
trying. In 2001, Lisa auditioned for the Nipissing Stage Company and spent the next five summer seasons with them as a performer, choreographer, stage manager and vocal director. Some of her credits include "Picasso at the Lapin Agile", "Rumours", "Shadflies"; "Shotguns", "Moon Rock", "Train Town",
"Nunsense", "Wrong for Each Other", "Wanted", "Ladies’ Night" and "Room Service".
Lisa was a part of the Gateway Theatre Guild from 2007 on stage and behind the scenes. She has been on and off the board
throughout the years. Some of her credits include "The
Melville Boys","I love you, you’re perfect, now change", "Talking With" and "Jacques Brel. In 2009 Lisa wrote, directed and performed in "Tonight at 8"! a cabaret style show that honoured the Guild’s 60th anniversary; and just because that was so much fun she did it again three years later with "Tonight at 8:03!"
Lisa knew that after being musical director for "The Big Bad Musical" she wanted to return to Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre and take part in a family show. She got that chance in 2015 when she had the honour of playing Mary Poppins in their production of the same name.
Lisa was thrilled to be part of the 22 Wing CFB North Bay Military Band, under the direction of W.O. Chip Kean for ten years. She was MC, vocalist, co-writer and artistic director for their annual Military Tattoo.
Some of her favourite shows include "Women in the War Years", "Salute to Policing Tattoo", The 50th
Anniversary of NORAD, and the 22 Wing Canadian Forces Base North Bay 60th Anniversary Tattoo.
Her love of jazz guided her to like minded individuals and she is thrilled to be the vocalist with the After "Hours jazz quintet.
She loves that North Bay is the city of choice for many TV/film productions. Some of her credits include,
"Death Comes to Town", "Dark Rising 2", "That Beautiful Somewhere", "Hard Rock Medical", "Mum’s the Word",
"Snipped in the Bud", "A song for Christmas" and "Noel en Boite", "SkyMed" and "Swing Into Romance".
Lisa is thrilled to be back onstage this week!
