Happy Friday Runners

Please allow us to introduce Matt Melnyk, coming right from our home town of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Matt has never run the Niagara Falls Marathon before. In fact, as he will be turning 42 shortly after race weekend, it is a perfect time for him to run his first full 42.2km Marathon, right here in Niagara.

We asked Matt:

Why do you want to run NFIM and what distance are you planning to run?
There comes a point where you realize there may be a window in your life where you are as fit as you have ever been, or maybe as fit as you are ever going to be. For me, that window has turned out to be in my 40s.
I do not take that for granted. While I have this opportunity, I want to be as healthy, strong, and capable as I can. I want to challenge myself, set an example for my kids, and hopefully be relatable to other people who are balancing work, family, stress, and the feeling of, “Am I really ready for this?”

What does running mean to you and how would being an Ambassador impact your running journey?
Running has become one of the clearest ways I measure physical fitness and progress.
As a dad, husband, and full time professional, running gives me structure. It helps me manage stress, stay healthy, and make time for something that is mine while still showing up for my family and work.
It has also taught me patience. Progress takes consistency. Some weeks go well. Some weeks are messy. There are long runs, early mornings, tired legs, weather issues, family schedules, and moments where you question the plan. But the bigger lesson is that you do not need perfect conditions to keep moving forward.

Happy Thursday Runners. Today we would like to introduce our Race Ambassador from Longueuil, Quebec – Joany Deslandes

Joany has never run Niagara but it has always been on her radar.

We asked Joany:

Why do you want to run NFIM and what distance are you planning to run?
Participating in this race would combine my passion for running with a place I already love. I’m planning to run the Half Marathon.

What does running mean to you and how would being an Ambassador impact your running journey?
Running is a huge part of my life — not just for performance, but for community and connection.

Last year, I was part of the Ottawa Tamarack Race Weekend Power Crew, and it was an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to connect with other ambassadors, build relationships, and share the event with my community both in person and on social media.

Being an NFIM Ambassador would allow me to create that same energy, promote the race authentically, and bring more runners into the experience.

Anything you want to tell us about yourself?
I’m very involved in the running community as both a pacer and event organizer, and I truly enjoy helping others achieve their goals.

Whether it’s pacing a race, organizing events, or sharing my journey online, I aim to inspire and motivate runners at all levels. I bring energy, reliability, and a strong community mindset to everything I do.

Good day everyone. Happy Global Running Day. As we all know running is a worldwide activity. People everywhere participate in running every day.

Please allow me to introduce our Race Ambassador Danya Palomera, coming to you from Mexico where running is just as big as anywhere else.

We asked Danya:

Have you ever run a NFIM?
No, I haven't had the opportunity to run it yet, but it has been on my 'bucket list' for a long time due to its iconic scenery and reputation as a world-class event.

Why do you want to run NFIM and what distance are you planning to run?
I am planning to run the Full Marathon (26.2 miles). My primary goal is to improve my personal record and achieve a Boston Marathon Qualifying (BQ) time. I believe the NFIM offers the perfect course and atmosphere to reach this milestone. As an ambassador, I want to share this journey of discipline with my community, proving that a BQ is possible with consistency and a breathtaking goal in sight.

What does running mean to you and how would being an ambassador impact your running journey?
Running is my ultimate tool for personal and collective transformation. It's the discipline that keeps me grounded and the sisterhood that reminds me every mile can serve a higher purpose. Being an ambassador would allow me to bridge my international racing experience with my leadership in Mexico, inspiring more Latin American runners to experience this iconic event. We don't just run for ourselves; we run to build community and leave a lasting mark.

Good afternoon Runners. Day 3 introduces our Race Ambassador, Marisa Malloy.

In Marisa’s words:

This race holds a special place in my running journey. It was my first major marathon experience, and returning in 2025 reaffirmed how meaningful and motivating this event is for me. The atmosphere, the community support, and the iconic course have made Niagara one of the highlights of my racing calendar.

What Running Means to Me
Running has become both an anchor and a doorway. It grounds me when I need stability and has opened up a life I once couldn’t picture for myself. It has transformed my mental and physical health, but even more importantly, it has reshaped how I see myself. I’m more confident because I’ve learned, through miles and effort, that I can do hard things. I can struggle, fail, try again, and still feel at peace with the process. Running has become much more than just running.

Running has also made me a role model for my five year old daughter. She has watched me race in the rain and in the sun, and she sees what commitment and perseverance look like in our home. She knows what support looks like. She sees both the support I receive from my running community at events and the support we give each other as a family. Being able to model that for her is one of the most meaningful parts of this journey. This sentiment is also true for my grade 5/6 students who I teach...they love asking me if "I won my race on the weekend", and hearing about how I used a growth mindset when things got tricky.

To put it simply, running has helped me bring the best parts of myself into my community. I run with joy, and I run with friends. I show up for others the way running has shown up for me. Becoming an ambassador would allow me to continue that trajectory. I want to share the sport that has changed my life and to help others discover what it can unlock for them...in small or big ways.

Fantastic Marisa.

Hi Runners

Day 2 introduces our Race Ambassador, William Brent

William is a passionate multi-sport endurance athlete currently training for the Ironman 70.3 Muskoka this summer. Professionally, he manages a business unit in automotive manufacturing, overseeing Class 8 truck assembly. William approaches operational leadership, his family life, and his race training with the exact same discipline, always striving to foster an environment built on equity and consistent ex*****on. When not training or working, he is usually spending time with his wife and three kids, or firing up his 3D printer to make toys and bookmarks for his son.

We asked William:

Why do you want to run NFIM and what distance are you planning to run?
If selected, I am planning to run the full marathon (26.2 miles). For over a decade, my relationship with the sport has been defined by the pace sign in my hand, dedicating my miles to helping other athletes achieve their breakthroughs. Now, I am focused on chasing my own ambitious finish lines. Plus, have you seen the spectacular views?

What does running mean to you and how would being an Ambassador impact your running journey?
Running represents the ultimate equity of effort. It’s the quiet, daily persistence required to balance my responsibilities as a business unit leader and a father of three with the relentless physical demands of endurance training. Being an Ambassador would profoundly impact my journey by allowing me to amplify this exact message. It provides a platform to show other busy professionals and parents that chasing ambitious athletic goals is entirely possible. I want to use my decade of pacing experience to guide, motivate, and champion the NFIM community, proving that the spirit of a marathoner exists in the daily effort we bring to our lives.

Hi All. As mentioned over the next few days we will be introducing each of our 2026 Race Ambassadors. We hope you follow their journey to Niagara and also hope they inspire you to your journey to October.

Meet Dawn Gamble, our first Race Ambassador.

Dawn is a 49-year-old runner, a 14-year breast cancer survivor, a personal trainer, and a certified running coach. Running has been a powerful part of rebuilding her strength, confidence, and identity, and Dawn uses that experience to encourage others to believe that it is never too late to start or chase something big.

We asked Dawn:

Why do you want to run NFIM, and what distance are you planning to run?
I plan to run the Half Marathon again this October. Having experienced it last year, I know how special this race is, and I would love to return not only as a participant but as someone who helps promote and share that experience with others.

What does running mean to you, and how would being an Ambassador impact your running journey?
Running has become a powerful part of who I am. As a 14-year breast cancer survivor, it has helped me rebuild strength, confidence, and trust in my body. It is both physical and mental, and it constantly reminds me that we are capable of more than we think. Being an Ambassador would allow me to extend that message further, using my platform and voice to inspire others to start, keep going, and believe in themselves. It would also deepen my own connection to the running community and the purpose behind why I run.

Anything you want to tell us about yourself?
I’m passionate about creating a positive, inclusive, and encouraging space for all runners. Whether someone is just starting or chasing a new goal, I believe every pace and every story matters. I bring energy, authenticity, and consistency to everything I do, and I truly love helping others feel strong, capable, and supported.
