In 1991, 13 Igloolik elders gathered to record 24 traditional ajaja songs, sharing how each was created and passed down through families. The film becomes a living archive of voices, rhythms, and stories, preserving the last generation born fully on the land for the youth to come.

Northern Haze: Living the Dream

Since 1977, Inuit rock band Northern Haze has shaken Arctic stages with heavy riffs and original songs in Inuktitut, becoming pioneers of Inuit rock. The film follows their decades‐long journey from Igloolik, showing how they balance musical passion with the hardships of life in remote Nunavut, and how their resilience turned local performances into a lasting legacy in Northern music.

Tungijuq (What We Eat)

Blurring boundaries between documentary, performance, and myth, the film imagines a journey into Inuit cosmology where animal and human identities are interwoven through song, movement, and transformation. This fluid, shape‐shifting world reflects the organic, enduring realities of Inuit life.

Two Montreal bands that write songs the way other people pick locks.

Feelings Meeting is Eli Kaufman, a drummer by trade who went looking for trouble on other instruments and came back with folk songs that don't sit still. They sound pretty on the surface, then the rhythm tilts, a phrase lands a beat late, and you realize the song has been looking back at you the whole time. The lyrics live in that panic of needing to be understood and knowing you won't be, and somehow make it feel like a celebration. The project has been a six-piece, a solo baritone ukulele, and most things in between. Fresh off recording a new album, this version puts Eli back behind the kit, playing their own songs as rock music for the first time.

Gleba is four people and a lot of wires: voice and electric guitar, bass, synths, drums with electronics bolted on. The songs are fast and dense and keep changing their minds, borrowing from punk, prog and synth pop without settling into any of them. Frenetic is the word they use. It's accurate.

Golden hour in the park, first week of the new school year, and the flowers are out. Come early, bring a blanket.

From Montreal’s DIY scene, knitting is the guitar-driven indie rock band of Mischa Dempsey, Sarah Harris, and Andy Mulcair. The band introduced their wiry careening blend of indie rock on their 2024 debut album Some Kind of Heaven (Mint), which spent five weeks at #1 on the Canadian campus radio charts and earned the band press from Pitchfork, The FADER and Stereogum. Between touring the album internationally, knitting wrote, recorded, and produced their sophomore album, Souvenir.

Montréal outfit Karma Glider propose a modern strand of indie rock, punctuated by elements from shoegaze, post-punk and noise pop. Touching on themes ranging from juvenile zeal and drug abuse all the way to love and spirituality, while employing raw materials from Britpop or 90s alternative as well as hip-hop inspired sampling methods, singer-songwriter Susil Sharma crafts uplifting tracks infused with a low-key punk attitude.

Museums is a body of wonder ballads. When it looks at its hands, it sees clean nails and blistered fingers. Its body, a skeleton of grunge, alternative guitar music held together with pop sinews. Its pulse, carrying melody and sound through infectious rhythm and intimate vocals. In its heart, it feels urgency, catharsis and a drive to wade deeper into unknown territory. Genre is an afterthought. Instead, Museums threads genres as they come, weaving them into a gooey, psychedelic blanket. Museums has performed at Osheaga, Taverne Tour, NXNE, Festival sur le Cana, Gain Fest and Nuit Blanche for Montréal Boreal. Their latest EP, This Can't Be It, released on June 12 via Petit Village Records.
