Montreal Hip Hop Summit

Montreal Hip Hop Summit MTL Hip Hop Summit June 11-2011 In partnership with CKUT 90.3FM, The Community Contact Newspaper, 514Smoke.biz, Hiphopfranco.com and Reverend Darryl G.

Gray, the Muhammad Study Group of Montreal and The Millions More Movement are organizing their 1st Annual Montreal Hip Hop Summit on Saturday June 11, 2011. The summit will be held at the Trinity Memorial Church Hall in N.D.G., located at 5220 Sherbrooke street W. Along with performances by local hip hop artists Dramatik, Frenchi Blanco, B.U, K-rim, Chaplin, Sarah Sheline and more, there will be a

special tribute to the late Montreal artist Bad News Brown (offered by his former Manager). The summit, themed ‘ITS BIGGER THAN HIP HOP!’, will address issues such as the inordinate promotion of violence, the degradation of women and the overemphasis on materialism that has plagued Hip Hop for the past decade. The culture has radically moved away from its conscious roots of the 80s & 90s. A roundtable will be held among local artists and activists prior to the public event scheduled for 6pm the same day. A lifetime Hip Hop Achievement Award will be given to local pioneers Dice B (Nuit Blanche), Mike Mission & Ken Dawg (Masters at Work) and DJ Butcher T. The latter will be recognized (for the first time officially) as ‘The Godfather of Montreal Hip Hop. Butcher T is seldom credited for being one of the first, if not the first DJ to bring Hip Hop in this city. The evening, co-hosted by Keithy Antoine (Urban Lounge Radio – CPAM), will close with a lecture by special guest speaker Minister Nuri Muhammad (Indianapolis, IN). The event will be broadcasted live from CKUT 90.3FM during the Masters at Work Show (between 7pm-9pm). Ticket donation is $10 and all proceeds will go toward the NOI Water Project in Haiti.
