Le jeudi 18 juin, de 18 h 30 à 20 h 30, pour celles et ceux déjà en ville, venez au social hangout Balboa organisé par le Cat’s Corner en collaboration avec le MTL BAL JAM.

Au programme : danses sociales décontractées, un espace pour pratiquer votre balboa, ou simplement un moment pour rencontrer de nouvelles personnes et retrouver vos amis.

Claire danse à Montréal et fait son premier tuck turn à Ottawa. Ah, la jeunesse… Présente régulièrement comme MC aux soirées hebdomadaires Downtown Stomp du Cat’s Corner, on peut aussi la retrouver en train d’enseigner un cours ou deux de Lindy Hop. Une chose est sûre : vous croiserez Claire en train de jammer sur des airs swing, entourée de tous ses amis de Lindy et ses copains de Balboa.

La première fois qu’on a mis un micro devant Gustavo, il avait 6 ans. Depuis, un micro a toujours trouvé son chemin jusqu’à lui. Que ce soit en tant que participant dans le programme de formation à l’ONU, lecteur à l’église, commentateur de football en direct à la télé, annonceur dans des stades ou plus récemment MC dans des événements de swing.

Gustavo a participé à son premier cours d’introduction au Cat’s en 2019 et n’a jamais plus regardé en arrière. Même s’il est très branché Lindy, il reste encore un Bal Baby, ayant pris son premier cours de bases il y a deux ans, sous la pression amicale de l’incroyable gang de Bal au Cat’s.

Claire is a Montreal-based dancer who experienced her first tuck turn back in Ottawa. Ah, youth… A regular MC at Cat’s Corner’s weekly Downtown Stomp, you might also find her teaching a Lindy Hop class or two. One thing’s for sure, you’ll encounter Claire jamming out to swinging tunes on the social dance floor with all her lindy pals and balboa buddies.

The first time someone put a mic in front of Gustavo, he was 6 years old. Ever since then, a mic always found its way to him. From being a chair at Model UNs, to doing church readings, live TV football commentary, stadium PA announcer, and most recently, MCing at Swing events.
Gustavo walked into an intro class at Cat's in 2019, and never looked back. Although he's very much into Lindy, he's still a Bal Baby, taking his first foundations class two years ago, after pure peer pressure from the amazing Bal crew at Cat's.

🎵Samedi : Michaël Srey Legacy Band🎵

Nous sommes ravis d’annoncer que le Michaël Srey Legacy Band sera composé de 11 musicien.ne.s et accueillera François Stevenson au vibraphone !

Le vibraphone est un instrument plutôt rare qui a un son velouté et percussif distinct. Le légendaire Lionel Hampton a popularisé celui-ci durant l’ère du swing et l’instrument était en vedette sur plusieurs enregistrements iconiques de cette époque.

Nous aurons la chance d’explorer ce répertoire lors de la danse du samedi de MTL BAL JAM !

🎵Saturday : Michaël Srey Legacy Band🎵

We are excited to announce that the Michaël Srey Legacy Band on Saturday will feature 11 musicians and include François Stevenson on the vibraphone!

The vibraphone is a rare instrument that has a mellow, percussive sound. It was popularized during the swing era by the legendary Lionel Hampton, who was featured on many iconic recordings.

We are incredibly lucky to be able to explore this repertoire on Saturday of MTL BAL JAM!
