MINTO COUNTRY MUSIC WALL OF FAME

MINTO COUNTRY MUSIC WALL OF FAME Previous Board members include Paul Rollins, Angelo DiCarlo, Mel McKenzie, Earl Brogan, Anna Rollins, Gary DiPaolo, and Dorothy Babineau. Alan Irvine

Biographies and photos of all inductees honoured by the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame are housed on the “Wall” at the Minto Municipal Building at 420 Pleasant Drive, Minto, N.B. The Minto/Chipman/Grand Lake area has long been known for its country music roots and a great many local musicians and entertainers have gone on to make their names known – not only locally, but on a provincial, nationa

l and even international level within the music industry. In the late 1990’s, Ron Vautour, Gary DiPaolo and the late Paul Rollins formed a steering committee, with the goal of establishing a “Wall of Fame” to recognize the contributions of these talented individuals. Following a successful presentation to Minto Village Council by the late Chairman of the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame, Aubrey Hanson, the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame was established. The “Wall”, which displays photos and biographies of the 104 inductees recognized since 2000, is housed at the Municipal Building, thanks to the generosity of the Village of Minto. The Minto Country Music Wall of Fame is a non-profit corporation with a constitution, by-laws, and a volunteer Board of Directors that presently includes Doris Belliveau, Margo Murphy, Ronnie Vautour, Brent Buchanan, Wanda Grant, Wendy Robichaud, Lorraine McNeill-Krall, and Chuck Madott. The Minto Country Music Wall of Fame hosts an Annual Induction Ceremony, which includes dinner and entertainment for up to 350 people, with entertainment, raffles and a silent auction. Six (6) new inductees are honoured each year at the Ceremony. The goal of the committee is also to ensure that the 14 individuals presently inducted into the NB Country Music Hall of Fame - who are originally from this area - are also recognized at a local level. In response to the Minto Senior’s Club’s recent post on Facebook (which has since been deleted from their page but a screenshot was taken and added to this post) regarding the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame, president, Ron Vautour would like to clarify a few things mentioned in their post.

To begin with, ever since the Wall of Fame began 20+ years ago, there has always been issues with the seniors club. There were issues with them not wanting to serve what we wanted for dessert or not wanting to sell only our corporate sponsor alcohol products.

In regards to them not being able to find a cook for over 300 people, in the last 10 years, we have never had over 300 people. This year we probably would have had close to the number of people we had last year which was 235. Also, it is in their “by-laws” that no one can operate anything in the kitchen unless they are a member of the club. We were not asked if we knew of a cook. One of our board members is a certified cook and was never approached to provide his services. Also, we asked if we could use their kitchen and provide the staff to cook the meal. Their answer was under no uncertain circumstances would they even entertain the thought and would not amend their by-laws to change anything. The suggestion of the snacks and finger foods would not have been provided by the seniors club and would have been our responsibility to bring in from outside as once again we were not allowed to use their kitchen facility.

We were not looking for the hall “free of charge” for the event this year. Last year, it being our 20th anniversary, we had thought of doing a Sunday afternoon event as well and suggested that the Sunday event be “rent free” as this event was no doubt their biggest money maker and has been ever since it began.

Another issue pertaining to the 2022 event was the fact that they ran out of paper towel and the soap dispensers were filled with watered down soap to the point where it splashed all over when you pressed on the pump nozzle.

Every year there has always been room on the tables for pitchers of water and water glasses. However, last year, it was mentioned that there was not enough room and that bottles of water could be purchased at the bar for $1.25 each.

Another reason why we went to Fredericton was because a large portion of our financial contributors have always been from the Fredericton area.

There are other individuals and/or groups who have gone to different venues for their event or will no long play at the club because they have also had their own issues with them. In particular, the Minto Sports Wall of Fame, the David McNeil Band, Hooked on Country just to name a few.

The MCMWF have always and will continue to give back to the community as long as we can. Some things we support are the Minto and Chipman Christmas Telethons, Bursaries to both Minto and Chipman High Schools, Minto and Chipman school breakfast program amongst other things.

In closing, the seniors’ should be willing to cooperate in a better manner when it comes to it being their biggest money maker.

Yours truly,
Ron Vautour
President
