The Word On The Street is a national celebration of literacy and Canadian writing. Each September, we host hundreds of readings for visitors of all ages. The Word On The Street Lethbridge is a national celebration of literacy hosted in Lethbridge by the Lethbridge Public Library. In this role, the mission is multi-faceted; to acknowledge and promote writers, publishers and literary arts organizati

ons in Alberta; to build bridges between literary arts and literacy in southern Alberta; to involve Aboriginal writers, theatre groups, and storytellers as integral contributors to Alberta’s heritage and culture; and to ensure The Word On The Street Lethbridge represents the diversity of all our communities and is accessible to everyone.

Exhibitor applications are now open for the 2026 Word on the Street Festival!

If you’re an author, publisher, literacy group, creative organization, or community partner with something to share, this is your chance to connect with readers, celebrate ideas, and be part of a festival rooted in storytelling and community.

We have some extra special events happening this year in celebration of The Word On The Street's 15th Anniversary!

Stop by and visit Slough Comics by Eric Dyck as he draws the sights and sounds of the festival from 12 - 4 p.m.

Add your contribution to the community mural project down at the south end of the parking lot by the Allied Arts Council booth. Presented in partnership with the Allied Arts Council Lethbridge, design concept by Emily Metherel.

Jessica Rose is a writer, editor and arts organizer who lives and works in Hamilton, Ontario. A passionate advocate for people and places, she works for a number of not-for-profit organizations focused on literacy, the arts, the environment, health and food security. A graduate of Carleton University’s School of Journalism, her writing includes the essay “Reclaiming Hamilton Through Artistic and Environmental Interventions” in Reclaiming Hamilton: Essays from the New Ambitious City (Wolsak and Wynn), Creating Healthy Communities (Rubicon Publishing) and the City of Hamilton Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP).
