The Lethbridge Breakaway Roping is an event that is held annually at the Lethbridge & District Pro Rodeo. It is a variation of calf roping where a calf is roped, but not thrown and tied. The event is open to both men and women.
The breakaway roping event begins with the calf being released from a chute. The rider then starts their horse and attempts to rope the calf around the neck. Once the calf is roped, the rider must release the rope and dismount their horse. The time is then taken from the moment the calf is released from the chute to the moment the rider dismounts their horse.
The winner of the Lethbridge Breakaway Roping is the competitor with the fastest time. The event is a great test of a rider's horsemanship, timing, and reflexes.
The 2023 Lethbridge Breakaway Roping will be held on August 24-26, 2023 at the Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta. The event is free to spectators.
