Poppy Secondary is getting ready to host its annual Car Show. This great tradition of putting on the first car show of the season brings many benefits for the school. With up to 700 + cars on display and thousands of spectators it is a great fundraiser for various groups in the school such as the shop departments, athletic teams, dry grad and many others. The shops are able to purchase tools that
are used for the student’s projects and race car; athletic teams for team trips and tournaments. In the last few years our Shops purchased a 2 point hoist, CNC wood router, 3D printer, vertical bandsaw, vinyl cutter, rotary attachment for laser, and Corel Draw license . We also have been able to purchase a spray wash solvent tank, sand blaster, hydraulic pipe bender and a document reader. It allows our students a chance to learn the importance of school community and giving back – their volunteer time at the car show offers them opportunities such as the destination athletic trips, the school race car, Dry Grad celebration and more. You will find students helping out on the day of the show at the concession, the gates, the grounds and setup/clean up. It is an opportunity for the school to connect with the local community – this year we are again looking forward to welcoming the Fort Langley Lions Club who will be offering a pancake breakfast in the morning to our exhibitors. Our Business Ed class is helping promote the show and we are seeking sponsors or donations from the local business community for raffle items, goodie bags for our participants (pens, hats, measuring tapes or other marketing giveaways). If you are interested in being a sponsor or donating any items please contact (parent organizer) Kerri Winter, 604-230-9040 or school principal Jonathan Harris at 604-530-2151. We look forward to welcoming you on the first Sunday in May - rain or shine!
