FESTIVAL THEME ANNOUNCEMENT

The theme for the 5th annual KW Palestine Festival is OUNADIKOM—that Palestine is calling on you. Inspired by the Lebanese revolutionary singer Ahmad Kaabour’s song of the same name, the song evokes a duty to come together and answer the call to fight for the liberation of Palestine. After nearly three years of unbated genocide and 78 years of the ongoing Nabka, the urgency has not diminished regardless of what governments and institutional media outlets say. Across generations, the fight for liberation of Palestine is passed down in the stories shared, the keys that exchange hands, and the truth that is innately known in the essence of being.

We must unite, hand in hand, in the struggle for the liberation of our homelands.

The 5th Annual KW Palestine Festival introduces Ounadikom, or Palestine Calls on You.

Hosted by the Palestinian Youth Movement and Sporas Scattered.

As the genocidal Zionist entity continues its campaign of ethnic cleansing against our people, and the cancer of Zionism continues to spread in our region, our people remain standing, steadfast and unshakable in the face of bombing campaigns, imprisonment, forced displacement and more. They refuse to bow down or accept the barbarity of the Zionist regime, resolute in their pursuit of complete and total liberation.

This year, we call on you to join us in honoring their steadfastness and resistance as we come together for the fifth annual KW Palestine Festival, Ounadikom. We will renew our commitment to the Palestinian cause, and ground ourselves in the role we play in the diaspora through various exhibits, performances, presentations and a celebration of our culture.

CALLING ON ALL BUSINESSES TO SPONSOR THE FIFTH ANNUAL KW PALESTINE FESTIVAL: OUNADIKOM

Your sponsorship will support a one-of-a-kind Palestinian event, filling a crucial gap in the KW region’s community events. Not only is this an event that places Palestinian culture at the forefront, but it also honours our peoples active resistance, and resilience especially with the ongoing Genocide in Gaza and the attacks on Lebanon. This event strengthens the sense of community within both the Arab and Palestinian diaspora, providing top-tier programs, and activities for attendees in Kitchener-Waterloo, and attendees who come out from beyond. Not only does the KW Palestine festival work to provide, a range of kids’ activities, delicious food vendors, unique commercial vendors, and cultural performances who honour our traditional dance and songs, but it prides itself on also creating multiple educational exhibits, like our Gaza maps, or our Hind Rajab car exhibit that bring an educational component to this event so we never lose sight of the struggle for liberation of our people. Your generosity is invaluable to helping us achieve our mission and creating a vibrant cultural and educational space for our community!

On July 13th we showcased the ways that Canada is complicit in this ongoing Genocide in Gaza. Through the arming of israel, the manufacturing of parts for the f-35 fighter jets and even the development of deadly parts in Kitchener - Waterloo, we made sure to expose this country's complicity.

With Gaza is enduring stage 5 of starvation and thousands are dying of malnutrition, Canada is not only complicit due to its inaction to hold israel accountable, it is soaked in the blood on tens of thousands that it financed the murder of.

THE LAND REMAINS

Our message this year was clear: The Land Remains. We will continue to fight and stand up for Palestine until we end Canadian complicity. This year's festival was a show of steadfastness and a chance to teach the masses not only about Canadian complicity but Palestinian steadfastness and resilience.

We presented powerful visual storytelling that exposed the ongoing genocide: from the Architecture of Genocide map detailing the systematic destruction of Gaza, to a striking replica of the car in which Hind Rajab was brutally murdered, to a life-sized model of the missiles dropped on Gaza in our Arms Embargo exhibit.

Attendees also had the opportunity to partake in our passport program which tours them around different cities in Palestine. And at the very centre of our festival we had a fountain surrounded by indigenous plants from around Palestine solidifying that while the zionist entity may choose death and destruction we will remain steadfast and continue to fight for life and freedom. And just like our people back home and our olive trees we remain rooted to our land.
