Once again, announcing the team list for the 2026 CTRR! (This is why we don’t multitask folks - it leads to typos😂) We had a record breaking 107 teams apply this year, and we wish to thank each and every team for continuing to show interest in our event year after year, it would not be the event it is today without all of you. Congrats to those who were selected, and happy training!

A wonderful establishment that has served as a finish line, start line, and snack stop for our runners for many years. Fuelling us with delicious lobster and crab sandwiches and always dealing with the craziness we bring with a smile, we will sure miss having these folks as part of our event going forward.

The Wreck Cove General Store won’t reopen.

Here’s the full details:

Well folks, unfortunately the time has come for us to call it a day.

We will not be reopening The Wreck Cove General Store.

Due to ongoing and increasingly complex health issues, Jenn and I need to focus on our health and well-being.

Jenn and I would like to thank everyone who has walked in our door to support us these last 12 years but we want to especially thank our amazing staff we have had over the years.

We will be continuing with our cottages and other ventures, but the building and recently completed environmentally remediated land will be going up for sale.

If you know of anyone looking for a residential home with a blank slate commercial space, in a great location, stay tuned for the listing in the near future.

With warm regards,

Brent and Jenn

💜 Run for a Heartbeat 💜

Herbie Sakalauskas, a Cape Bretoner and long time CTRR participant, is taking on the Cabot Trail solo to raise money for an important cause.

Starting November 7, Herbie will be starting his run around the Cabot Trail to raise $30,000 for a LUCAS Device for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. A LUCAS Device provides patients with consistent, high quality chest compressions during cardiac arrest, increasing the chances of survival in critical emergencies. It is an incredibly valuable tool to have at busy hospitals such as the CBRH.

An example of Cape Breton spirit!
Meet Hayden MacLean 😎
He did not hesitate to help out when the tech crew realized they didn't have a gas can to keep their generator going.
The tech crew stopped at the Irving in Ingonish, only to find out they didn't sell gas cans. They were "just amazed at how quickly he was willing help!" Seeing that they were in need, Hayden didn't hesitate. He jumped in his truck and came back in a few minutes with a gas can. "It was incredible to see how eager he was to help the Cabot Trail relay."

We managed to track him down a week later and found out that this isn't the first time he's helped someone out. He's helped stranded snowmobilers and anyone else that might need a hand.
Thanks Hayden for your community spirit and for agreeing to pose for a photo!
It's locals like you that keep this race going year after year.

About that tent ... 😎
After finding out in the fall the Victoria Highland Civic Centre (aka "the rink") wasn't an option for the 2025 race banquet, the big question was ... where else can we seat 1300 people in the area? Is it even possible?
A few options were considered, including not having a banquet at all. We weren't even sure if we could find a tent big enough, and if we did, where in the heck could we put it.
In November, we found Commercial Tent in New Brunswick. They made a trip to Baddeck in February for a preliminary site check, rolled with a change of location and responded to what seemed like a thousand emails to clarify the details.
And then the tent arrived in Baddeck on the Wednesday before the race, with a crew of 6 for assembly and take down.
The Baddeck Lions Club adjusted their routine to the updated venue, the tent withstood a downpour on Friday and the banquet proceeded on Sunday. A fine time, indeed.
Sadly we didn't get any drone shots of the tent, but I'm pretty sure you could see it from space!

✨SPONSOR HIGHLIGHT✨

Last, but certainly not least, we have our leg sponsors! These folks all support our event simply because the Cabot Trail Relay means something to them. They all offer their support in different ways, and for that, we couldn’t be more thankful. It is a true example of the spirit of our event - helping and supporting others just for the sake of it.

Thank you for taking the time to read about all of our amazing sponsors. We certainly could not have this event without each and every one of them.
